The Dallas Mavericks have gone through arguably the worst 30 days possible in terms of PR for the franchise. The fallout from the Luka Doncic trade keeps affecting the franchise daily, both on and off the court. As things go from bad to worse for the injury-riddled franchise on the court, it seems the fans are going to continue holding the short end of the stick.
After a reported 40% decrease in ticket prices after Doncic was traded, it seems the organization is scrambling to make that money back next season. After a 15% hike for season tickets coming off their 2024 Finals appearance, the franchise is reportedly hiking the price by another 8.61% for next season, causing angry fans to revolt.
“The Dallas Mavericks just sent me my season ticket renewal and they increased the prices another 8%. You trade away everyone’s favorite player, make the team worse, and want to charge us more? Get out of here,” said the fan who started the brouhaha on the matter on social media.
“30 days ago, the Dallas Mavericks traded away their home-grown superstar, called him fat, and laughed in the fans’ faces about it. Today, they decided to almost DOUBLE the price of my season tickets from the past couple of years. The new ownership is disgustingly out of touch,” said another fan.
“Yes, the Mavericks are jacking up their season ticket prices. But included with your package you get to see 5x All-NBA 1st Team point guard Luka Doncic twice a season *and* superstar point guard Jalen Brunson once,” reminding fans about the elite stars they’ve lost under Nico Harrison’s GM tenure.
“The Mavericks’ raising ticket prices is hilarious. You traded away the guy who would’ve been your team’s greatest ever, and now you wanna charge your fans more to go see them play?” said a fan who finds their audacity hilarious.
“If anyone had doubts what the Adelson family is doing with Mavericks it should be pretty clear now, they RAISING ticket prices after blowing a big f**k you to the city,” said one fan who believes the ownership is trying to poison the local fans.
Independent reporter Grant Afseth took a poll of Mavericks fans and if they’d renew season tickets for the franchise with the hike, with a whopping 95% of fans voting no out of nearly 3,000 votes.
The team is justifying the increase as a way to invest in the Mavericks, but this could likely alienate even more fans after the franchise had to forcefully quell widespread protests after they decided to trade Doncic. It was inexplicable then, but the franchise’s actions since moving him are making it look even worse.
They’re in a bad way on the court too, with three rotational centers out injured and key forward PJ Washington also out for the foreseeable future. It got much worse tonight where Kyrie Irving suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury and his backup Jaden Hardy suffered an ankle injury to further beat the Mavs down.
Diehard fans will flock to Mavs games, but the current ownership and management are testing the absolute limits of the fanbase.
