The Denver Nuggets have turned the tide of their first-round Playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers after defending homecourt advantage with a strong 131-115 Game 5 win to take a 3-2 series lead.
Jamal Murray was masterful, living up to his status as a Playoff riser with 43 points (17-26 FG), five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals in the win. Aaron Gordon had 23 points (7-11 FG) while Russell Westbrook had 21 points (8-15 FG) off the bench. The role players producing at a high level allowed Nikola Jokic to take a supporting role, ending the game with 13 points (4-13 FG), 10 rebounds, and 13 assists.
Fans are loving how this series is going, with many highlighting the performances of Murray and Westbrook after the Nuggets’ win.
“Nuggets v Clippers, the best series so far, and it’s not even close,” said one fan.
“The Westbrook doubters are Westbrook fans again,” said one fan about the positive reception Westbrook’s performance received online.
“Russell Westbrook’s value should never have been questioned. He won the Nuggets two crucial games this series,” said another fan, emphasizing Russ’ importance.
“Playoff Riser, Jamal Murray, Ladies and Gentlemen,” said a fan about Jamal Murray.
“Whew, buddy, when Jamal Murray cooks, he *cooks*,” said another fan.
“Way to let them know you’re back, Jamal Murray,” said one fan who was waiting for Jamal to have a Playoff outburst like tonight.
“I know the Nuggets team doesn’t have the deepest depth of all time, but Jamal Murray routinely walks down teams in the playoffs this time of year. To act like Jokic is out there with nothing but G-Leaguers is crazy to me,” said one fan wanting the Nuggets supporting cast to be recognized for what they can achieve outside of Jokic.
Ivica Zubac led the charge for the Clippers with 27 points (11-15 FG) and five rebounds, with Kawhi Leonard managing a near triple-double with 20 points (8-15 FG), nine rebounds, and 11 assists. Bogdan Bogdanovic put up 18 points (5-11 FG) off the bench while Kris Dunn had 15 points (6-7 FG) in a strong performance. However, James Harden struggled with just 11 points (3-9 FG), eight rebounds, and five assists.
The Clippers’ defense couldn’t do anything about the incredible shooting nights from the likes of Murray and Gordon, with players like Westbrook giving Denver extra firepower. This loss will unsettle the Clippers as their 2-1 series advantage has now turned into them needing to win every remaining game to keep their season alive.
The teams will meet for a highly anticipated Game 6 on Saturday in the Clippers’ Intuit Dome.
