Bronny James is fully aware of the criticism and scrutiny that comes with being LeBron James’ son, but instead of letting it break him, he’s using it as fuel to push himself harder. While his father has often said that Bronny tunes out the outside noise, the young guard admitted in a recent interview with Joe Vardon that he sees everything people say about him—and he’s embracing it.

“My first thought about everything is I always try to just let it go through one ear and out the other, put my head down and come to work and be positive every day. But sometimes it just fuels me a little bit. I see everything that people are saying, and people think, like, I’m a f***ing robot, like I don’t have any feelings or emotions.”

“But I just take that and use it as fuel for me to go out, wake up every day and get to the gym early, get my extra work in, watch my extra film every day, get better every day.”

The 20-year-old has taken major steps in his development since joining the Lakers as a second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. While his NBA minutes have been limited, he has flourished in the G-League, averaging 20.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game on 43.1% shooting from the field and 36.1% from three.

In the NBA, Bronny has played in 20 games, averaging 1.6 points in just 4.7 minutes per game. But when given extended playing time, he has shown flashes of potential. In a recent game against the Nuggets, with LeBron and Luka Doncic both out, Bronny played 16 crucial minutes and hit a key three-pointer in a pressure moment.

Despite his growth, criticism follows Bronny everywhere, and it reached a boiling point when ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith openly attacked Bronny and called for LeBron James to end his NBA career. The comments angered LeBron, who confronted Smith in person during a Lakers game.

Bronny, however, isn’t letting the negativity get to him. He understands the doubt, but he’s determined to prove people wrong.

Every morning that he’s not on the road with the Lakers or in the G-League, Bronny wakes up at 8 AM and is at the practice facility by 9 AM. His routine includes film study, individual skill work, “stay ready” scrimmages, and physical therapy.

This dedication to improvement is something Lakers GM Rob Pelinka has taken notice of, praising Bronny for his professional approach to development.

Bronny’s NBA future is still uncertain, but his determination is unquestionable. He has already overcome a life-threatening heart condition, and now he’s proving that he belongs in professional basketball.

His next challenge is proving that he can translate his G-League success to the NBA. But this kid is not letting anything stop him. He knows he has to work, and he is willing to put in that work as he has already shown. He is ready to impress whenever he gets a chance in the league.

This is a kid who, just a couple of years ago, suffered a cardiac arrest in practice, which completely disrupted his entire college season. Yet, he never gave up. He has the potential, he has the drive, and he has the work ethic.

That’s all he needs. Go prove everyone wrong, Bronny. The true NBA fans believe in you.
