Westbrook had a smirk on his face while exchanging taunts with Davis, so this was likely just a result of their competitive spirit with nothing personal between the players. Westbrook can claim he outplayed Davis on the night despite having a much smaller role than what Davis does on the Lakers.
Russ had 14 points (6-10 FG), seven rebounds, and 11 assists while Davis had 14 points (6-19 FG), 10 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. It was one of the worst losses for the Lakers this season, with the team looking quite similar to the unit we saw last season get pulverized by the Nuggets in the Playoffs.
Westbrook is enjoying a resurgent year with the Nuggets as a bench player, averaging 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists. Davis was leading MVP talks around the NBA prior to the dismal performance against the Nuggets, averaging 30.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on the year.
Both players are iconic figures in the NBA over the last decade, although Westbrook’s impact at its peak has been higher than Davis’. Russ is a former MVP but is a journeyman role-player nowadays, having switched teams every season since 2019.
