Savannah James spoke recently on her podcast about a tense situation with a fan. She noted that she was accompanying her and LeBron James‘ daughter together, Zhuri, at a game, where she saw a fan in the stands showing Bronny the middle finger. Her motherly instincts kicked in and she confronted the man for disrespecting her son, only to remember she had her daughter with her, and de-escalated the situation.

“Yeah, so, short story, when I had the baby (Zhuri James) on my hip, ’bout to go and try to fight a man, he was flicking Bronny off in a game. And you know how you say you gotta be an adult and talk to the people head-on? I marched up them bleachers with Zhuri, little tiny Zhuri.”

“What am I gonna do? I’m talkin’ to a man, like, ‘So, you flickin’ my son off? That’s what we doin’ at this game?’ ‘Oh no, I was doin’ that to my son. That’s what we do.’ Okay, so now you crazy. You just randomly flippin’ your son off while he playing the game? That’s odd, but yeah, alright.”

Savannah was well within her rights to confront the man for disrespecting her son. While NBA fans pay a ticket and can express themselves at a game, crossing lines and spewing offensive language and signs at players is definitely not right. The fan was lucky that Savannah didn’t escalate the situation.

It is unclear which game Savannah was referencing, or whether it occurred when Bronny was in high school, college, or now in the NBA. But from the sounds of it, this may have occurred recently. Regardless, that must have been a very frustrating and angering experience for a proud mother like Savannah James.

Bronny James Enduring Intense Fan Reception

The reception to Bronny James embarking on his NBA career is two sides of a coin. Bronny receives a lot of backlash and scrutiny online for his struggles during NBA games, with several fans questioning why he is being given an opportunity in the NBA.

However, this is entirely different when Bronny takes the court in an arena, as several fans let out their most vocal cheers when Bronny enters a game, and encourage him to show off his skills and come up with a big play. There is a lot of support for Bronny James from fans attending games, but the same cannot be said online.

James has played six games so far this season, averaging 2.7 minutes per game, and putting up 0.7 points, 0.3 assists, 0.2 rebounds, 0.2 steals, and 0.0 blocks per game while shooting 16.7% from the field, 0.0% from the three-point line, and 100% from the free-throw line.

Recently, it was reported that Bronny James will only play home G-League games for the South Bay Lakers, and will not travel with the team when they go for away games. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who is known to be close to LeBron James, called out the Lakers for showing favoritism to Bronny James and accused them of nepotism.

Windhorst certainly has a point, as Bronny’s game is just not at the level for him to be a fixture on the Lakers, and he could benefit from playing with the G-League team instead. Perhaps the Lakers will pivot and send Bronny to the G-League more regularly to get him more minutes and reps going forward.
