Philadelphia 76ers fans don’t have to wait much longer to see Paul George in a 76ers jersey in an official game, as Shams Charania of ESPN reported that George will make his official debut for the team against the Phoenix Suns tomorrow.

After this, George and the 76ers will play against his former side, the LA Clippers, in Los Angeles on Wednesday. George was out to start the season after suffering a bone bruise in a preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks.

It will be a big moment for Paul George, who will be eager to prove to the 76ers organization and fanbase that he was worth the massive investment. But his return to the squad is also a big boost to the 76ers, who have struggled massively in the absence of George, and Joel Embiid, who were both out to start the season.

76ers fans will hope that George’s injury is an exception rather than the norm and that he will be available to play for much of the regular season this year.

George’s injury troubles are well-documented, which is why some fans were concerned about his arrival to the squad, as the 76ers’ main star, Joel Embiid, is also a player who struggles massively with injuries, and the squad needed a second star that can play consistently and regularly and carry the team in his absence.

Before his injury, George was playing decently in the 76ers’ preseason games. In the two games he played for the 76ers, George averaged 15.5 points, 1.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 0.0 blocks per game. The 76ers will be hoping he returns to a similar, if not better level of production upon his return.

Will George Help Turn 76ers Around?

As mentioned before, Paul George’s return to the 76ers is incredibly important, as the team has struggled in his and Joel Embiid’s absence. To start the season, the 76ers are 1-4 and have lost to some of the worst-performing teams in the NBA, like the Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies, Milwaukee Bucks, and Toronto Raptors.

With just Tyrese Maxey leading the squad, the 76ers have shown that their ceiling as a squad is really low, and they need the return of their other stars. A player of George’s caliber can help elevate the team’s performances, and help make the whole squad around him better with his presence.

Last season with the Clippers, Paul George had a great season, averaging 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game.

Suppose he can replicate this level of production on the 76ers, combined with the return and presumable good form of Joel Embiid. In that case, the 76ers will be the title contenders everyone expected them to be at the start of the season.

For the Clippers, signing George was a sign that they are going all in, and are fully committed to competing for an NBA championship. During the Joel Embiid era, the franchise has yet to even reach an Eastern Conference Finals. The hope with George is that he can change that and help lead this team to the promised land.
