At 19-32, there isn’t much hope for the New Orleans Pelicans this season. With Zion Williamson M.I.A. and much of the supporting cast having underwhelming campaigns, it is no surprise that the franchise has already shifted its focus towards the future.

When Zion Williamson does eventually return, he’s going to need all the help he can get putting New Orleans basketball back on the map.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the team is already looking into several avenues to upgrade the roster.

“We were supposed to get our latest update [on Zion] a week ago, no update has been forthcoming from the Pelicans. Yet they are out there trying to trade for a big name guard. They are out there talking to the Trailblazers about CJ McCollum…talking to the Kings about De’Aaron Fox…talking to the Rockets about Eric Gordon. They look like they’re gonna be buyers but we don’t know what’s happening with Zion.”

The situation with Zion Williamson may be one of the NBA’s biggest mysteries at the moment. The young star hasn’t been seen or heard of all season long, and the team hasn’t revealed much information about his status or when we can expect him to return.

All the while, Brandon Ingram has been trying his best to keep the team afloat, but the Pels are going to need more if they really want to be taken seriously. Could offensive-oriented guards like CJ McCollum, De’Aaron Fox, and Eric Gordon do the trick? At the very least, it’s a solid idea to surround Zion with shooters, and it could be worth a shot But the Pelicans don’t have too much to offer in return if they want to keep Ingram around.

At this point, all the team can really do is shake things up and hope it works out when their young superstar takes the court again.
