Russell Westbrook is one of the greatest point guards of all time, and there is no doubt that he will be a first-ballot Hall of Fame player when he retires. As of right now, he is on the Los Angeles Clippers, where he is trying to help the team win the championship.

Previously though, Russell Westbrook was on the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played as a sixth man. A recent report from Chris Haynes revealed that Russell Westbrook still wants to win the Sixth Man of the Year award for his time with the Lakers.

“I did a lot to buy into the system there with the Lakers,” said Westbrook.

Per Chris Haynes, Russell Westbrook still wants to win Sixth Man of the Year despite becoming a starter with the Clippers.

There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook was solid coming off the bench with the Los Angeles Lakers, and perhaps he can thrive in a similar role with the Los Angeles Clippers if the team decides that his being a starter isn’t a good fit. Russell Westbrook may just be flat-out better as a sixth man these days, as he lost the last 14 games he started.

As of right now, Russell Westbrook is averaging 14.0 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.5 APG for the Los Angeles Clippers, while shooting a solid 45.7% from the field. There’s no doubt that he’s been solid from an individual level with the team, but unfortunately, team success hasn’t followed. Perhaps that can change going forward.

Austin Rivers Defended Russell Westbrook’s Time With The Lakers

Recently, guard Austin Rivers stood up for Russell Westbrook, defending the point guard from the criticism of his time on the Lakers. He noted that Westbrook was at “the wrong place at the wrong time”.

“You know how that is over there on that team,” Rivers said. “They’re gonna find an answer and it ain’t gonna be some other people. It’s gonna be him. I think Russ was just a person at the wrong place at the wrong time and the wrong situation.

“He played well, the guy’s a first-ballot of Hall-of-Famer, they asked him to come off the bench, no problems, comes off the bench, has a good energy about it, good attitude about it, what else do y’all want from the man? They got a lot of things going wrong in terms of like why they weren’t winning before. It wasn’t just Russ.”

Though his time on his last franchise wasn’t the most pleasant, hopefully, Russell Westbrook can figure some things out with the Los Angeles Clippers. He has a skillset that fits their team, and perhaps we’ll see him do well going forward.

Thus far, the Los Angeles Clippers are 0-4 with Russell Westbrook. However, that number could end up changing soon, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
