The offseason is always the best time for players that like to extend their interests beyond basketball. We’re seeing Jimmy Butler watching tennis and Nikola Jokic dabbling in horse racing, but Stephen Curry is using this time to further his love for golf.

Curry was competing at the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament that he won. To celebrate another title on his mantlepiece, Curry drank wine out of the trophy on the plane.

You don’t become one of the greatest guards to ever play the game of basketball without competitive spirit and resolve. Curry has embodied that for most of his career on the court and is extending it to his career on the grass.

He can’t make the switch to playing professional golf as an active NBA player, but this may be an avenue for him to pursue after retirement. If he can hit hole-in-ones like half-court threes, he may have a bright future in the sport.

Pursuing Championship Glory On The Court

Winning offseason titles in golf is a great summer achievement, but it’s not the summer achievement Curry would have set out for. The Golden State Warriors star aimed to lift his fifth NBA title in June and push for a three-part next season. Instead, they were beaten convincingly by a lower-seed Lakers squad that put their roster together in February.

Curry went down fighting, averaging 26.7 points, 7.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds in the second-round playoff loss. It’s a question of improving the team around him now, and it doesn’t look like the Warriors have hit a home run on that front. Chris Paul could be an intriguing addition, but Cory Joseph and Dario Saric won’t move the needle. The West is becoming tougher and it looks like the Warriors may have taken a step back.
