Michael Jordan is up there as one of the most well-known people of all time. Across the globe, even people who’ve never followed the NBA know exactly who MJ was and have heard of him. So with that amount of fame, having any sort of privacy is usually very unlikely. But there are still some facts about MJ, especially from when he wasn’t a star in the league yet, that are relatively lesser-known or even unknown.

Jordan is a proud University of North Carolina alum, he was instrumental in helping them win the championship and becoming the player that would dominate the NBA for the next two decades. And while everyone knows about his teammates at the time, names like James Worthy, not many people know about the academic aspect of his UNC days. Not that it was his primary focus, but Jordan majored in Cultural Geography.

Jordan seemingly loved seafood, and it’s not surprising, considering that one of the hobbies he’s said helps him calm his nerves through all the pressures of life is fishing (via Sportscasting). He famously competed in a contest with his boat, the ‘Catch 23’

Jordan famously looked up to David Thompson, but his idol was also Walter Davis, a 6’6 guard who is often described as one of the purest shooters of his era. Sanford And Son was a sitcom in the early 70s when Jordan was grown up, and it’s easy to see why the show would stick with a young kid like MJ. And Jordan has always had an edgy side, so the fact that he also loved a thriller like Blue Thunder is even less surprising.

No matter how much media digging goes on, and how much people care about a certain celebrity, certain facts will always go down as secrets to the public at large. Jordan’s more noticeable interests are evident, like the very expensive things he’s bought. And while MJ has his own, at least we know some of the things the GOAT liked doing when he wasn’t busy winning championships on the court.
