The NBA right now is surrounded by the Kevin Durant trade saga. Ever since the superstar asked the Brooklyn Nets for a trade, pundits and fans alike have been in a constant debate in determining which team is the potential destination for Durant.
NBA pundit and analyst Chris Broussard is no exception to this. While determining potential suitors for Durant, Broussard landed in some hot water. The veteran analyst, in a recent episode of First Things First, claimed that KD won’t play for the Toronto Raptors and had some weird reasoning about the same, claiming that Toronto is awkward, among other absurd statements.
The full clip from Chris Broussard also includes:
-him comparing Scottie Barnes to Ben Simmons
-saying maybe a Ben Simmons trade makes sense for the #Raptors
-"The best players they have tend to be the international guys… or DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry, who weren't superstars." pic.twitter.com/iaSQnVeOcs

“Great city, but it’s not America, and you feel it when you’re there,” Chris Broussard said on Monday’s edition of First Things First. “Especially as an African American, it’s a different situation than African Americans are used to being in. I’ve talked to people in that organization pre-Ujiri about can they keep African American superstars there?”
Raptors legend Vince Carter recently reacted to this. In a recent episode of the VC show, Carter certainly was having none of it and clapped back at the veteran journalist. (0:48 onwards)

“One thing Toronto is NOT is an awkward city for an African American… There’s players who are dying to get to Toronto, saying Toronto was one of the best kept secret… It’s just disappointing to hear that. I’m just like, ‘Where do you get that information from?’… It’s not America? There’s a lot of players who said when they go there, it feels just like that. It feels like a cleaner city in America.”
Given how long an analyst like Chris Broussard has been in the media, it is simply unacceptable for a personality like him to shame an entire city.
As far as the Raptors are concerned, with a blend of great young talent and regular contributors on the side, Toronto is probably one of the best-placed teams to make an offer according to Brooklyn’s demands. Can the Raptors be the team that becomes Kevin Durant’s new home?
