5 Reasons Why Kyrie Irving Will Not Join LeBron James And The Lakers This Summer

The Los Angeles Lakers have become a huge mess all of the sudden, and while they’re one of the biggest clubs in all of sports history, they’re unlikely to land any top-tier free agents in the summer.

A franchise that’s always on the spotlight lacks a president of basketball operations and looks run by one of their players isn’t going to be a primary destination for any superstar in this upcoming free agency.

And, while some reports point towards Kyrie Irving “discussing” the possibility of joining the Lakers in the summer, we just don’t see that happening any time soon, and today, we’ll give you the 5 reasons why Kyrie Irving won’t join the Lakers.

5. He’d Lose All Of His Credibility

Ok, it’s been pretty clear that Kyrie Irving doesn’t mind being hated or treated as the bad guy, but, c’mon, less than a year after claiming that he’d extend his deal with the Celtics, how could you leave the team?

Moreover, Kyrie leaving the Celtics to join the Lakers would be the ultimate sin. Even if you left your former team in bad terms, you cannot immediately change them for their longtime rivals, not even if you’re Kyrie Irving.

4. They’re Not Championship Contenders

The Los Angeles Lakers have put together quite a decent young core. Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, and Brandon Ingram are all very promising players, but they’re not ready to be a part of a Championship team as of yet.

Irving is one of the best players in the world and so is LeBron James, but the King is already 34 years old, and he’s never played in the Western Conference before. It’s a whole different world out there, and they’d still have the Blazers, Thunder, Warriors, and Rockets ahead of them.

3. Frank Vogel

Let’s face facts. If the Lakers don’t get off to a good start of the season, Frank Vogel isn’t going to last for a long time. He has to earn LeBron’s respect, which seems unlikely as the King has always beat him in the playoffs.

There have been a lot of questions about Vogel’s ability to contain and coach LeBron, let alone Kyrie Irving. He doesn’t have enough authority to deal with that kind of character, and Irving wouldn’t like to play for him anyways.

2. He’ll Have Better Offers

The Los Angeles Lakers can offer him money and their winning culture, but, can they offer him the chance to win a Championship right away? We think not, at least not in the way other teams could.

Kyrie is going to be one of the most heavily pursuit free agents in the summer, and with teams like the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Clippers looking to sign him, he won’t even consider joining the Lakers.

1. He Wants To Prove He’s The Alpha Dog

Irving doesn’t want to play sidekick to LeBron anymore. He’s determined to prove he’s one of the league’s best players, and having the King around will taint his legacy. He already gave up on a team that made it to 3 straight NBA Finals, so he’s not joining James again.

This is the most important summer in Kyrie Irving’ career. Boston Celtics were favorites to play in the NBA Finals, but they lost against the Sixers. If he thinks that he is good enough to lead one franchise, this is the best moment for him.
