Nobody doubts Luka Doncic is a special talent. The Slovenian point guard is set to be great in the NBA, but there are certain things he must improve to become the face of the league in the future.

During his first three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, the young player has shown he has the skills to become one of the greatest to ever play the game. His talent is unmatched, but Luka struggles in some areas, disappointing many people with his approach to certain things.

This offseason, the player let himself go a little bit again, which hurt his fitness, and now is under criticism. This hasn’t been the first time Luka has shown up to a season out of shape, and the player admitted he needs to do better.

Once Luka makes better decisions and starts working to improve his game, he will be unstoppable. However, not everybody believes the player is working to get to the next level. Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer recently claimed Doncic’s work ethic is very different from the rest of the league.

“Doncic is a magnificent talent, a no-doubt top-10 player who could not improve a lick from today and still make the Hall of Fame. Luka is a generational talent. But he’s not a generational worker.

“Doncic hasn’t improved physically since he was a 19-year-old rookie, and his game has not come far since his second season, when he was fourth in MVP voting. Luka remains an inconsistent 3-point shooter. He hasn’t cut down on turnovers. He’s one of the most inactive players without the ball in his hands. At one point, he advanced on defense, but he’s been worse this season. In a league full of players investing millions of dollars and countless unseen hours into their bodies and skills, does Luka do everything he can?”

Throughout history, we have seen relentless competitors like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. These players pushed themselves to the next level, showing an incredible work ethic and competitiveness that’s hard to match. That mindset made them three of the greatest players of all time.

Luka could learn a thing or two from them and see how far he can take his career once he takes better care of his body. He has a lot of room to improve, and the point guard can take advantage of that. Once he works on his deficiencies, things will get a lot better for Doncic.
