Joel Embiid Reacts To Tying Allen Iverson For Fewest Games To Reach 7,000 Points In 76ers History: “I Probably Would Have Had 15,000 Points By Now. It’s Great But Not The Focus.”

Joel Embiid has been one of the best players for the 76ers over the last decade. While his initial years with the franchise were marred with injury, Iverson was able to persevere and make it to the NBA, where he became the first legitimate superstar for the 76ers since the days of Allen Iverson.

And recently, he tied the 76ers legend for an impressive record. Joel Embiid has now scored 7000 career points, all with the 76ers. In fact, he tied Allen Iverson for the fewest games played to reach this milestone in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers franchise, both doing so within their 300 games.

When asked about breaking Iverson’s record, Embiid was honored, but also acknowledged that he should have broken it. Embiid believes that he could be at double the points right now, and it indicates that he needs to work harder on being fitter for the team down the line so that the team can eventually win an NBA championship while he plays.

“Obviously, I wish I was more healthy. I probably would have had at least 15,000 points by now. It’s great, but that’s not the focus. The goal is to always get better every single day, so we have a chance at winning the championship.”

Embiid also revealed in the interview with Sports Illustrated that he didn’t actually think that he would make it to the NBA, as his goals when coming to the United States were wildly different. But not only is Embiid here now, but he is also a superstar in the league and achieved something that only the legendary Allen Iverson has.

Embiid also made headlines recently for his comments towards Karl-Anthony Towns. Towns had criticized Russell Westbrook for stat chasing, and Embiid responded by slamming him for his comments. This once-dormant rivalry could pick up steam, which could mean Embiid won’t have enough time to revel in the glory of matching Iverson.
