There are many opportunities for fans to win some sort of prize at NBA games via contests, whether it be gift cards or monetary compensation. It seems as though the Los Angeles Clippers will be taking that to the next level.

According to Farbod Esnaashari of Sports Illustrated, the Los Angeles Clippers will be giving away $10,000 at every home game, to one lucky fan that comes early to the game. Here is how the contest works:

  1. “Arrive early and be in your seat at tip-off.”
  2. “Defend our home court by bringing the energy!”
  3. “Wear Clippers colors or gear to show your support.”

In terms of who can win, any ticketed person in the arena that is over the age of 18, wearing Clippers gear or colors, and in their seats at least 15 minutes prior to tip-off is eligible to win.

“At game time, a panel of judges will pull all tickets that were scanned prior to tipoff, and that meet the contest criteria. The winner must be in their seat at tip-off and during the first quarter and will be announced before the end of the first quarter.”

There have already been some winners, and Esnaashari’s article included footage of the Clippers fan that won the contest during the Clippers game against the Heat on November 11th.

It is quite clear that the Los Angeles Clippers don’t want fans arriving late, and this seems to be an attempt for them to deter late arrival. It makes sense that a lot of fans would want to arrive early in order to qualify for this contest, even if the chances of any given person winning are slim.

It remains to be seen if the contest does have the desired effect, though there’s plenty of financial incentive for Clippers fans to arrive early. While a lot of Los Angeles fans are loyal to the Lakers, it is quite possible that there will be more people sporting Clippers gear with this promotion.
