Michael Malone Thinks DeMarcus Cousins Should Still Be In The NBA: “That Guy Is A Very, Very Talented Player.”

During his prime, DeMarcus Cousins was viewed as one of the best big men in the game. He had an extremely versatile offensive game, being able to score well on the interior, while also mixing in some perimeter play. Cousins made 4 All-Star appearances and 2 All-NBA appearances due to his stellar play.

Currently, Cousins is far from his prime, having sustained many serious injuries over the last few years. He is a free agent, and no one has given him a chance since his stint with the Los Angeles Clippers.

During his time with the Clippers, DeMarcus averaged 7.8 PPG and 4.5 RPG in just 12.9 MPG, while shooting 42.1% from beyond the arc (on limited volume). Those are solid role-player numbers offensively, and perhaps it is worth it for someone to give him another shot in the NBA.

Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone has recently stated that “it’s crazy” that Cousins is out of the league currently. Malone has had first-hand experience with Cousins’ ability, as he coached the big man during his time on the Kings.

Michael Malone pregame in Minnesota asked about the evolution of the big man. He brings up DeMarcus Cousins who he coached in Sacramento: “I think it’s crazy that DeMarcus is not in the league right now. That guy is a very, very talented player.”

I think it’s crazy that DeMarcus is not in the league right now. That guy is a very, very talented player.

While there may be some concerns about DeMarcus Cousins’ waning athleticism and subpar defense, he definitely has some potential as a good bench player who can provide some quick offense off the bench. He’s also a solid rebounder and floor spacer. Both are skills that are generally useful in any situation, especially as a role player.

We’ve seen other former All-Stars who revived their careers after nobody wanted them, such as Carmelo Anthony. He is now a key part of the Lakers rotation. Perhaps we’ll see the same from DeMarcus Cousins in the future. Sometimes, all a player needs is another opportunity.
