Kevin Love Would Have To Give Up $12M-$15M If He Wants A Buyout From The Cleveland Cavaliers

Kevin Love hasn’t had the best year in terms of basketball. During the 2020-21 season, Kevin Love averaged 12.2 PPG and 7.4 RPG, while shooting only 40.9% from the field. Despite his down season, it is clear that Kevin Love is an experienced veteran who could potentially help a team with his rebounding and shooting from beyond the arc.

There was a prior report that suggested that there is no trade market for Kevin Love. While no teams may want to trade for him, there is a possibility that Kevin Love and the Cleveland Cavaliers agree to a buyout in the future, allowing Love to hit free agency and join a team of his choosing. That would certainly be a good option for the Cleveland Cavaliers, as it’ll give their young players more opportunities to develop with more minutes.

While a buyout could potentially help Kevin Love revive his career, he may have to sacrifice some money to get that opportunity. An article from Jason Lloyd of The Athletic revealed that Love would have to give up anywhere from $12 million to $15 million for the Cleveland Cavaliers to consider a buyout, something that he reportedly isn’t willing to do.

Love would have to give back significant money, somewhere in the $12-$15 million range, for the Cavs to consider letting him walk. Love has given no indication to this point he’s willing to do that. So the staring match continues

It makes sense that Kevin Love wouldn’t want to give up a large sum of money just to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he could change his mind in the future. Kevin Love can still be a solid contributor in the league even if he has declined from his All-Star days. If he were to hit the free agency market, any contender could use him on a veteran minimum contract.
