Spencer Dinwiddie will be an upcoming free agent after missing the majority of this season with an ACL injury. However, during his last full season, Spencer Dinwiddie showed that he can thrive as a full-time starting point guard, averaging 20.6 PPG and 6.8 APG. There is no question that if he’s fully healthy, he can be an extremely valuable piece for any team.
While he is coming off an injury, it seems as though Dinwiddie’s valuation of himself is still high. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Dinwiddie reportedly wants a contract that will pay him $25 million every season. While some teams may find it risky to sign Dinwiddie at that price, no team wins championships without taking some risks.

While the price might seem like a lot for a player that is coming off a serious injury, there’s no doubt that it’s easy to see how Dinwiddie could be worth the contract. Spencer Dinwiddie is as equally talented a scorer as he is a facilitator, and he also plays some good perimeter defense on guards, while being able to switch onto a wing player in a pinch. A lot of teams could use a ballhandler behind their superstar as well.
With the reported price tag, it is almost a guarantee that the Brooklyn Nets will not retain Spencer Dinwiddie, since they already have three players who are on big contracts in Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Kevin Durant. It remains to be seen whether they will manage to arrange a sign and trade for Dinwiddie, though Dinwiddie could just end up leaving for nothing.
Spencer Dinwiddie will be one of the best guards available in free agency, and it is no surprise that we’ve heard reports linking him to a variety of teams in need of a guard, such as the Chicago Bulls. Spencer Dinwiddie will command a lot of interest from teams, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
