Los Angeles Lakers Potentially Open To Moving Down In The 2021 NBA Draft While Acquiring First And Second Round Picks

The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to remain very busy during the upcoming offseason. For the Lakers, they need to overhaul the squad ahead of the new NBA season so they can capitalize on LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ championship window.

The duo already won one NBA title together. But the Lakers will want more as long as they have at least one of the stars. So far, the Lakers have been linked with several superstars through massive trades. And while nothing has materialized as of yet, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka and the rest of the front office will be hard at work making moves happen.

And it seems that the Lakers may be ready to use their draft capital ahead of this week’s NBA Draft to their advantage. Currently, the Lakers hold the 22nd overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft. But according to NBA insider Johnathan Givony, the Lakers could be willing to let go of that pick and move down in the draft in order to acquire multiple first or even second-round picks.

This could be a move for the Lakers to increase the number of assets they have ahead of what will be a crucial offseason. The Lakers’ front office will need all the assets they can get if they’re going to enter negotiations with other franchises for some of their top stars.

For the Lakers, the availability of top stars is a big concern. Other than LeBron James and Anthony Davis, there is no reliable option to lead the team, especially in their absence. Dennis Schroder was brought in to do that, but he had an underwhelming season.

So far, the Lakers have been linked with several superstars such as Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Damian Lillard. But they have also been exploring options to bolster the squad such as Kyle Lowry, Buddy Hield, and DeMar DeRozan. We will have to wait and see if the Lakers are able to materialize a move for any of these names in the upcoming offseason.
