Blue Man Hoop

Stephen Curry vs. LeBron James has always been an interesting comparison. They are both transcendent superstars who have faced off against each other in many Finals series. They have both won against one another. Many people consider Stephen Curry and LeBron James as superstars in the same tier, though most neutral NBA fans would put James above Curry.  Both of them have been in consideration to be the best player in the world in the past.

Ahead of the Golden State Warriors facing the Los Angeles Lakers in the play-in game, the debate has started once again. Most people would still take LeBron James as the best due to his winning pedigree, but it seems as though Kenny Smith would rather have Stephen Curry.

There is no doubt that Stephen Curry has had an absolutely stellar season. He is the 2020-21 NBA Scoring champion and has been the offensive engine for this Golden State Warriors team. He has been playing at a similar caliber to his 2016 unanimous MVP season, and the Warriors have needed every bit of it.

Many analysts had the Golden State Warriors written out after Klay Thompson’s injury. However, Stephen Curry showed his superstar impact and has improbably brought them to a position in the play-in tournament. Kenny Smith declaring Stephen Curry as the best player currently definitely isn’t a stretch.

When looking at the Lakers and Warriors rosters, most objective people would say that the talent on the Lakers is greater. However, the Golden State Warriors are still a top-tier defensive team, and they have quite possibly the best offensive player in the world. With Stephen Curry on your team, you always have a fair chance of winning.
