Adrian Wojnarowski Says NBA Could Try Adding A Mid-Season Tournament To Schedule

At this point, it’s fair to call the NBA’s play-in tournament experiment a monumental success.

Despite the gripes of some players, the play-in has received huge amounts of interest from fans, and the upcoming matchups are drawing everyone’s attention.

But did you know that another tournament-style event could be added to the NBA schedule? According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, league executives could opt to add a mid-season tournament once things settle back down to normal.

“I think the play-in tournament is gonna be there in the future. And I think you’re gonna hear more conversation moving forward about a mid-season tournament. But I think that’s once we get out of this shortened season and get back to a normal 82-game schedule that’s on a regular NBA calendar.”

One big issue with the mid-season tournament is how little support it would get from the players. Not only would it add more games, and further tear on their bodies, but it would be hard for the league to give a true incentive for anyone to take it seriously.

If the 82-game season returns, and the play-in stays, adding another tournament might be a little too much.

But we’re seeing how successful these tournament-style events can be and if the NBA can compromise a but with their players, it might be possible for them to pull it off.

Either way, it seems Adam Silver has some big plans for the NBA’s future.
