Jerry West Lauds Chris Paul: “Chris Is A Different Breed… The Ultimate Competitor.”

The Phoenix Suns are currently 2nd in the Western Conference, which is a drastic improvement from their performances last season. A large part of that has been the addition of Chris Paul to the roster, and the veteran point guard’s leadership has been key for a young Phoenix squad. Chris Paul’s tenure in Phoenix has been a successful one so far, and many have praised him for the franchise’s turnaround.

Aside from being a good leader, Chris Paul is clearly still a good basketball player. Paul is currently averaging 16.0 PPG and 8.8 APG, and is one of the best point guards in the league despite being 35. Recently, Lakers’ legend Jerry West has spoken about Paul’s impact to Sam Amick of The Athletic. West spoke highly of Paul’s diverse game and pointed out that he’s not just a one-way player.

Chris is a different breed. Only people who appreciate basketball appreciate him. He’s got every element you want as a player. He just competes and plays every night. And he’s not a one-way player, either, by the way. He’s a bitch (to play against). I love him as a player. I always have. He’s smart. He’s clever. He can make shots. He can defend like crazy. Again, he does everything that you would want in a leader.

He’s just a remarkable player. He’s just a tremendous, tremendous player. The ultimate competitor. He’s been like this his whole career.

Chris Paul was one of the best point guards in the league when he was in his prime, and the fact that he is still an All-Star at 35 speaks volumes about how good he is. Chris Paul’s experience has been vital to the Phoenix Suns moving up in the standings. It will also be crucial when they are in the postseason and competing in a playoff series. Chris Paul is a competitor who hasn’t yet won an NBA championship: perhaps this young Phoenix squad could help him get there.
