Former Mavs Player Devin Harris Says Dirk Nowitzki Should Own A Portion Of the Mavericks In The Future: “I Think It Is Fitting. What He Has Done For This Organization…”

42-year-old Dirk Nowitzki played his last game back in 2019, marking the end of his amazing career with the Dallas Mavericks. And while his playing days are over now, Dirk may have a role to play in the Mavericks’ long-term future.

Years ago, Mavs owner Mark Cuban shared his enthusiasm towards the idea of Dirk one day owning a (small) portion of his team, an idea that Nowitzki himself didn’t exactly shoot down. And now, in an interview with Landon Buford, former Mavericks player Devin Harris echoed a similar approval at Dirk becoming a part of the ownership group.

“I think it is fitting. What he has done for this organization, and he poured his heart, sweat, and tears about it, and brought a championship back,” said Harris. I think it would be a fitting way to end it or begin it. By giving him a piece of that and allowing him to make some of those discussions.”

Dirk isn’t necessarily the most accomplished player. He’s a career 20.7 point per game scorer, has only one MVP to his name and spent most of his career getting dropped early in the playoffs.

But he is responsible for Dallas’ first, and only, Championship, something that clearly made him a legend amongst the community there.

Between that accomplishment, his amazing skill set, and loveable personality, it appears the franchise has grown an unbreakable connection to him — and it will be cool to see how it manifests in the future.
