As one of the most highly-coveted young players in the league, Lonzo Ball’s upcoming free agency has been a major point of contention for the NBA community.

Ball, 23, is lauded for his shooting and defensive abilities, and is posting averages of 14.2 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game on 38.5% shooting from downtown.

And while Zo’s name was floating around the rumor mill this deadline, the Pelicans guard expressed delight with staying put, saying that he’s “where he is supposed to be.”

“I’m happy to be here. … In the end, I didn’t get traded and I’m where I want to be,” Ball told reporters. “What happened was supposed to happen, and I’m where I’m supposed to be at.”

For those that have been following, Lonzo’s father, LaVar, recently made headlines for suggesting that his son was not happy in New Orleans and prefers to play in a bigger market.

Amid that noise, and reports that Zo is looking at signing in New York or Chicago. Of course, in the end, the young guard might not have a choice.

This summer, he will be a restricted free agent, meaning the Pelicans can match any offer that comes his way.

But we’ll see soon enough how much they value his presence on the team…
