The South Bay Lakers traveled to Ohio to take on the Cleveland Charge on Friday, and Bronny James put in a solid all-around showing on his return home. James had 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals on the night, but it wasn’t enough to get the win, as the Charge beat the Lakers 125-113. Despite the result, NBA fans were impressed by James.
“Bronny shot badly but it’s good to see that he’s affecting the game in other areas. Since his shot was off, it’s great to see him getting assists, rebounds, and steals. These are all great signs for Bronny’s growth.” A fan loved seeing James impact the game in other ways when his shot wasn’t falling.
“Definitely not shy, which is good. I still think we got a steal at 55,” a fan liked that James remained aggressive and reckons the Lakers got a steal.
“Yup, he’s a baller,” a fan went as far as to call James a baller.
“Bro shot the Celtics’ championship date,” a fan mocked James for not being efficient.
“Most young players struggle with efficiency…he getting boards and assists also, playing an all-around game,” a fan praised James for his all-around showing.
James did go just 6-17 from the field but on a positive note, was 3-8 from three. The 20-year-old has really struggled shooting from beyond the arc at the professional level so it’s good to see him start making them at a solid clip. What also stood out in this contest, was James’ athleticism.

Bronny's athleticism stood out in tonight's game more than his previous ones. He was really getting up on his rebounds and most importantly not giving up on plays.

James, the 55th pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, is starting to look more comfortable out there on the court and that bodes well for his future. He also continues to be a huge draw, with the Charge broadcast revealing that a new home attendance record of 5,153 was set in this game.
While the fans showed up for James, it was Emoni Bates who stole the show. Bates had 30 points, five rebounds, and two steals to lead the Charge to victory. These two teams will face off again on Saturday at 7 PM ET and it will be interesting to see if James is able to put on a show in that one.
Scouts Have Not Been Impressed With Bronny James’ Play In The G League
James has started to play better in the G League after a rough start but not everyone is impressed by what they’ve seen. According to NBA analyst Jeremy Woo, scouts aren’t enamored by Bronny.
“Scouts I’ve spoken with view James much the same way they did during the predraft process: He’s an unselfish player capable of making a positive impact at the G League level, but also not one with tremendous developmental upside. It looks like James has added strength, but he hasn’t been particularly efficient this season and has struggled to control his turnovers.”
“The scouting report remains the same – opposing scouts know what to expect from James but largely aren’t enamored by his long-term outlook. Nobody I spoke with at the Showcase changed their tune. There’s plenty of time for James to improve, but at this point, he remains more valuable to the Lakers than to any of the other 29 teams.”
James does have plenty of time to improve. While he is still nowhere near ready to play significant minutes in the NBA, we have seen some growth in his short time at the professional level. With a proper development plan, perhaps James could one day turn out to be a solid NBA player.
