The Olympic Games In Tokyo Could Be Canceled: The Last Chance For LeBron, Curry, Durant, And Harden

3 Min Read

One of the biggest events of this year could be postponed again due to the COVID-19 global pandemic we’re living in right now. The Tokyo Olympic games were expected to be held last season but the pandemic hit the world and stop everything around the globe for a couple of months now.

Even though some countries have handled the situation very well, others are still struggling to improve their reality and return to a normal life. It was expected that this event was going to be carried out this summer but now things might be different for everybody, as recent reports have suggested they will be postponed again. According to The Times, the games could be ultimately canceled given the current situation around the world.

The Japanese government has privately concluded that the Tokyo Olympics will have to be canceled because of the coronavirus, and the focus is now on securing the Games for the city in the next available year, 2032.

According to a senior member of the ruling coalition, there is agreement that the Games, already postponed a year, are doomed. The aim now is to find a face-saving way of announcing the cancellation that leaves open the possibility of Tokyo playing host at a later date. “No one wants to be the first to say so but the consensus is that it’s too difficult,” the source said. “Personally, I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Of course, this is terrible news for the world of sports but this could have a bigger impact on the NBA than most people realize. This tournament was expected to be the last chance for big stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and James Harden to play with Team USA. Redditor “cesga_” pointed out that this could have big ramifications for the team and some stars that were going to get revenge after the fiasco the team lived in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Nothing is official yet but this could become a reality in the next couple of days.
