The Los Angeles Lakers picked up a narrow 115-113 win over the Golden State Warriors in a phenomenal Christmas Day matchup which came down to the wire. LeBron James and Stephen Curry lived up to the hype by leading their teams in this duel which nearly went to the Warriors after back-to-back Curry threes in clutch time.
LeBron put up 31 points (12-22 FG) and 10 assists while Curry had 38 points (14-24 FG) and six assists in the all-time classic which ended after a clutch Austin Reaves layup to put the Lakers up two. Fans loved this matchup even though some were distraught over the first-quarter injury suffered by Anthony Davis.
“Laker Nation, what a game!! Austin Reaves with the last-second layup to win the game, finishing with a triple-double. LeBron was superb tonight as well with a 31-point and 10-assist performance and so was Golden State’s superstar Steph Curry, finishing with 38 points! NBA on Christmas Day has definitely been worth the watch!,” said Magic Johnson after this Christmas Day Classic.
“We are REALLY gonna miss Steph and LeBron when they’re done playing,” said Marques Brownlee, reflecting on the impact of these two players.
“Maybe when Bron and Steph retire we just bring them back when the Warriors and Lakers play, just so we don’t lose the classics,” said content creator Dom2K about the brilliance of matchups between LeBron and Steph.
“Another legendary LeBron vs. Steph duel, and we’re 4/4 on Christmas Day bangers,” said one fan.
“No way the Warriors should’ve lost a Christmas night home game to a team without its best player, Anthony Davis. Wonder what Steve Kerr’s excuse will be this time?,” said Skip Bayless about the Warriors losing this game to the Lakers without Davis.
“Every Warriors and Lakers player watching Steph and LeBron go band for band,” was one fan’s reaction to this classic showdown between the two legends.
“You lose this game vs the Lakers missing half their rotation + AD you can just pack the season up,” said one fan who thinks the Warriors should’ve won this clash.
The Lakers got some phenomenal performances beyond LeBron as well, with Austin Reaves putting up a triple-double with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. He also scored the game-winner. Rui Hachimura had 18 points (6-12 FG) while Max Christie had a great night with 16 points (5-13 FG). Dalton Knecht returned to form with 13 points off the bench (5-9 FG).
Curry did the heavy lifting for the Warriors, with Andrew Wiggins having a solid 21 points (8-19 FG) and 12 rebounds. Wiggins unfortunately couldn’t stop Reaves on the final possession of the game. Jonathan Kuminga had 14 points (4-10 FG) and six rebounds off the bench while Trayce Jackson-Davis got 11 points (5-7 FG) and nine rebounds. Dennis Schroder struggled with 11 points (3-10 FG) and five assists.
A matchup between LeBron and Steph will always be one of the biggest attractions the NBA can put up in the regular season. In what might be their final Christmas Day clash against each other, they delivered superstar performances.
Anthony Davis’ injury will make the Lakers leave tonight with some concerns, but with him already being classified as day-to-day, he thankfully shouldn’t miss too much time as the Lakers are looking increasingly competitive.
