Kemba Walker is an electric point guard on the offensive end of the floor. Walker has a quick-twitch dribble, the ability to pull up from anywhere, and he makes crazy shots around the rim. Walker is a point guard that can do everything on the floor. However, during the postseason, Kemba Walkers struggled, and it was Jayson Tatum who was the main driving force for the Celtics.

With Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Conference, it is possible that Kemba Walker may ask for a trade to a team like the Clippers, in order to form a superteam. A superteam would get him the chance to compete for a championship: while Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are great stars themselves, playing with a superstar who’s won a championship like Kawhi Leonard would tempt most good players. If Kemba Walker were to get traded to the Clippers, here’s how the trade package could look.

Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Kemba Walker

Boston Celtics Receive: Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, Ivica Zubac, Patrick Patterson, Mfiondu Kabengele, Daniel Oturu

The Boston Celtics Go All-In On Their Young Core

With a Kemba Walker trade, the Celtics could entrust their franchise to their anchors of the future, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. That would also free them up to see what Marcus Smart can do on the offensive end. Kemba Walker doesn’t quite fit their timeline and struggled in the playoffs during the Toronto Raptors series. Walker is also a smaller guard, so he can get exploited on the defensive end. By starting Marcus Smart, the Celtics could embrace their defensive identity, while letting Kemba Walker have a big chance at winning a ring.

Patrick Beverley would be a player who fits Brad Stevens’ system, he can defend well and shoot threes: that would leave Marcus Smart as the main facilitator on the team. A defensive lineup that includes Smart, Beverley, Brown, and Tatum would be an absolute menace to opposing teams at most positions on the court. Lou Williams would be included in the trade to make up for some of Kemba Walker’s offensive impact. Ivica Zubac is a promising young center, who would offer some size at the C position, and give the Celtics a quality center. The other players, like Patrick Patterson and Mfiondu Kabengele, are there for the salary matching. Oturu is a promising young prospect. The Celtics could also further trade some assets from this trade: they don’t have to keep everyone. Perhaps some more quality veterans would help the young Celtics take the next step, and this trade would provide that.

The Clippers Create A Big Three

Yes, this trade is huge. 6 players for Kemba Walker is a huge sacrifice for the Clippers, albeit one that is worth it. There is also precedent for a huge trade like this; the Chris Paul to Houston Rockets trade a few years ago comes to mind. The Clippers do not have a natural playmaker on the roster, and Kemba Walker could be that player for them. While he has been known as a scoring point guard throughout his career, it is mostly because he had to score a lot of points every night to give the Charlotte Hornets a chance to win. He could adjust his game to be more of a playmaking guard and is fully capable of doing so. Kemba Walker would also be a good fit next to two high usage players, having played with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are both proven All-NBA caliber players. A third All-Star caliber player would let the Clippers compete with teams the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Clippers are a team that is building to win a championship. Championships are won with star power. Kawhi Leonard is a known quantity, while Paul George is inconsistent in the playoffs, while sometimes flat out struggling. Having a potent third option would allow George more space to operate. Kawhi Leonard would then also have two teammates that could step up to score on any given night. Essentially, only good things can come from this trade for the Clippers.

In the modern star fueled basketball era, teaming up with stars is one of the best ways to give yourself a chance for the championship. This trade does precisely that for Kemba Walker. If the Clippers were to win a championship with him, Walker’s name would be etched in NBA history, as being part of the team that brought the first-ever championship to the Clippers.
