Kyrie Irving On Steve Nash Hiring: “I Don’t Really See Nets Having A Head Coach. KD Could Be A Head Coach, I Could Be A Head Coach Some Days.”

Ever since he made those claims about the NBA bubble telling players it was better not to play and keep fighting for racial injustices, Kyrie Irving was out of the spotlight. Well, he returned in a great fashion on Wednesday, leaving some interesting things for the NBA community. Kyrie appeared Kevin Durant’s new podcast ‘The ETCs’ to talk about several topics, including his future partnership with KD, their relationship off the court and of course, their new head coach, Steve Nash.

While talking about Nash, Irving said the coaching job couldn’t even be exclusive for the 2x NBA MVP, stating he could be coaching one day or even Durant.

“I don’t really see us having a head coach,” Irving said, via Alec Sturm of Nets Republic. “You know what I mean? KD could be a head coach. I could be a head coach.”

Durant also chimed in and said Jacques Vaughn could take the reins of the team, too, explaining not all the load should be put on Nash’s shoulders.

“It’s a collaborative effort,” he said.

When asked about Nash, Kyrie said it’s a ‘growing relationship from afar,’ and that he has big respect for the Canadian.

“Steve is great, and I have a relationship with him that’s going to build over time, bro. Steve don’t know me from anything he heard or he’s heard someone else. We’ve worked out one time in 2014, but it’s grown as just a respectful relationship from afar. I saw him at the Hall of Fame two years ago, gave him a big hug and now he’s the head coach. And I think it’s also going to change the way we see coaches.”

These words could be misunderstood by plenty of people, but even Nash claimed he would help as much help as possible to take this team through the right path. Let’s not forget this will be his first coaching experience in the league, in a team which will have big expectations from the get-go. Of course, it’s not for Kyrie to say this type of thing, but if Nash already said it, what his players can do? As KD said, it’ll be a collective effort.
