The Nets are sitting at 7-10, and things aren’t exactly looking great. It’s pretty clear this squad isn’t built to compete right now. But one big bright spot is Cam Thomas. The dude’s been balling out, dropping 24.8 points per game and proving he’s a walking bucket.

Here’s the twist, though: Cam’s contract is up after this season, and he’s about to hit restricted free agency. The Nets? They’re reportedly down to trade him to snag some long-term pieces. Makes sense—they’re rebuilding and could use all the picks and young talent they can get. So, what kind of deals could be on the table for one of the hottest scorers this season? Let’s break it down.

A Great Young Option For The Spurs

Nets receive: Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley, 2025 first-round pick (via Chicago), 2027 first-round pick (via Atlanta), 2030 first-round pick (via Dallas)

Spurs receive: Cam Thomas

Let’s imagine this trade scenario, where the Nets decide to move Cam Thomas to the Spurs for a package of young players and picks. This isn’t based on any real talks—just a potential move that could make sense for both squads.

For the Nets, who are currently 7-10 and clearly looking to rebuild, this trade would bring in Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley. Branham’s got a solid scoring touch for a second-year player, and Wesley has the tools to develop into a versatile guard. On top of that, the Nets would add three first-round picks from different years, giving them some serious ammo for their rebuild.

As for the Spurs, sitting at 9-8 and building around Victor Wembanyama, they could use another scorer to help take the pressure off their French sensation. Cam Thomas could fit that role perfectly. He’d bring instant offense and give the Spurs a new dynamic in their backcourt, pairing nicely with their existing young core.

This mock trade gives the Nets a big haul to invest in the future while letting the Spurs level up their current roster. It’s all just for fun, but it’s a deal that seems like a win-win on paper.

Adding More Power Punch To The Magic

Nets receive: Anthony Black, 2025 first-round pick (via Denver), 2028 first-round pick (via Magic), 2030 first-round pick (via Magic)

Magic receive: Cam Thomas

The Magic have been one of the better surprises in the league this season, sitting at 11-7 and looking like a serious playoff team. Their defense has been elite, holding opponents to just 105.8 points per game. But while the defense is lights out, the offense could use a spark. They’re currently bottom five in points per game and lack a consistent closer to take over late in games aside from Franz Wagner.

Anthony Black has been solid this year, averaging 8.8 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.7 rebounds. At 6’7″, he brings size and defensive versatility to the guard spot, making him an excellent fit for the Magic’s identity. But Black is still raw offensively, and the Magic might view Cam Thomas—one of the league’s most exciting scorers—as the piece to take them to the next level.

For the Nets, adding Black along with three first-round picks (2025 via Denver and the Magic’s picks in 2028 and 2030) would be a big win for their rebuild. Black fits their young core with his playmaking and defensive potential, while the picks give them future flexibility.

For the Magic, this mock trade would be all about sending a message—they’re ready to compete now. Pairing Thomas with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner could turn their offense into something special, giving them a better shot at making noise in the playoffs.

Boosting The Jazz On Offense

Nets receive: Kyle Filipowski, Isaiah Collier, 2026 first-round pick

Jazz receive: Cam Thomas

Picture this scenario: the Jazz, sitting at the bottom of the West with a 4-12 record, decide it’s time to shake things up and double down on building around their young core. In this mock trade, they bring in Cam Thomas to pair with rookie Keyonte George, while sending Kyle Filipowski, Isaiah Collier, and a 2026 first-round pick to the Nets.

For the Jazz, this is all about adding offensive firepower. Keyonte George has been one of the brighter spots in Utah this season, averaging 14.9 points and 5.7 assists since being moved into the starting lineup. But he needs help, and Thomas, with his knack for creating his own shot and scoring in bunches, could be the perfect partner in crime. At just 22 years old, Thomas fits the Jazz’s timeline perfectly and gives them a young duo to build around.

The cost? It’s steep but reasonable. Filipowski, the 6’11” rookie, has been solid, showing flashes of floor-spacing and rebounding. Isaiah Collier, meanwhile, is a dynamic playmaker with big upside. Throw in a 2026 first-round pick, and the Nets get a promising mix of talent and assets for their rebuild.

For the Nets, this deal adds two high-upside young players and a pick to their growing collection of future assets. Filipowski brings size and shooting, while Collier has the potential to develop into a legitimate starting point guard. Adding these two alongside Brooklyn’s existing young core gives them plenty of options moving forward.

For Utah, this mock deal is a bold move to pair George with a proven young scorer and start building a backcourt that could grow together for years. With their current struggles, adding Thomas might be exactly the spark they need to get the ball rolling.

A Scoring Upgrade For The Hornets

Nets receive: Tre Mann

Hornets receive: Cam Thomas

Let’s imagine this trade where the Hornets bring in Cam Thomas to supercharge their starting backcourt alongside LaMelo Ball, sending sixth man Tre Mann to the Nets in return.

For the Hornets, sitting at 6-10, this deal is about unlocking their offensive potential. Thomas is already proving he can be a starter, holding down a primary role in the Nets’ lineup. Pairing his lethal scoring ability with LaMelo’s elite playmaking and Brandon Miller’s emerging versatility would create a backcourt-and-wing trio that could be terrifying to defend. Thomas adds the kind of isolation scoring and shot creation that the Hornets have been lacking, making him a perfect fit to elevate their offense to the next level.

On the other hand, the Nets bring in Tre Mann, who has been thriving as the Hornets’ sixth man. Mann is averaging 14.1 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.9 rebounds while providing a spark off the bench. His game is less flashy and more team-oriented, fitting the Nets’ focus on building a cohesive, balanced roster. Plus, Mann’s future contract will become far more affordable than what Thomas is likely to command as a restricted free agent this offseason. For a rebuilding Nets squad, Mann offers long-term value without the price tag of a big extension.

This trade gives the Hornets a legit starter who could redefine their offense, while the Nets pick up a cheaper, team-first guard who complements their young core. It’s a win-win scenario for both teams, depending on how they want to shape their futures.

The Bulls Could Have Their Future Backcourt

Nets receive: Ayo Dosunmu, 2025 second-round pick (via Kings)

Bulls receive: Cam Thomas

Let’s imagine a scenario where the Bulls, sitting at 7-11 and desperately in need of offensive firepower, bring in Cam Thomas to bolster their backcourt. In return, the Nets pick up Ayo Dosunmu and a 2025 second-round pick from Sacramento.

For the Bulls, this deal is all about finding a true scorer who can take some pressure off Zach LaVine—or replace him entirely if trade talks heat up. Thomas’ ability to create his own shot and thrive in iso situations would be a huge boost for Chicago’s struggling offense, which ranks near the bottom of the league in efficiency. Pairing him with Josh Giddey gives the Bulls a versatile and dynamic backcourt to build around.

For the Nets, this trade prioritizes fit and financial flexibility. Ayo Dosunmu, averaging 11.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds this season, is a scrappy, two-way guard who plays hard on both ends of the floor. He’s not the scorer Thomas is, but his defense, passing, and team-first mentality align well with Brooklyn’s culture. Plus, he’ll be significantly cheaper than Thomas next season and on, giving the Nets flexibility to continue building their roster. The added second-round pick sweetens the deal, giving Brooklyn another asset for the future.
