Kendrick Perkins brought chaos and comedy to NBA Today yet again, leaving co-host Chiney Ogwumike completely stunned by his antics. The moment came during Perkins’ analysis of the Golden State Warriors‘ narrow 123-118 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Cup game on November 14th.

As Perkins passionately broke down the game, he abruptly barked mid-sentence, causing Ogwumike to leap from her seat in shock. Her reaction—wide-eyed and speechless—had viewers and co-hosts alike cracking up.

Perkins’ outburst wasn’t entirely out of character. Known for his larger-than-life personality, the former NBA champion has a knack for delivering his points with a mix of humor and intensity. 

While dissecting the physicality of the Warriors-Grizzlies matchup, which saw Draymond Green get ejected late in the game after picking up two quick technical fouls, Perkins decided to emphasize his point by channeling his inner “dawg.” He barked loudly, startling Ogwumike, who stood up and walked away momentarily, clearly stunned.

When she returned, still visibly bemused, Ogwumike retaliated in playful fashion by balling up a piece of paper and throwing it at Perkins. Perkins, unapologetic as ever, leaned back with a grin, clearly enjoying the moment. Ogwumike, meanwhile, could only shake her head in disbelief.

This wasn’t the first time Perkins’ barking antics had caused a stir. Last season, he similarly startled Ogwumike and Malika Andrews while talking about the Philadelphia 76ers during a halftime segment. He’d barked then to illustrate the “dawgs” mentality of players like Patrick Beverley and Marcus Morris. Perkins’ commitment to embodying the metaphor has become a running gag on the show, but it always seems to catch his co-hosts off guard.

The Warriors-Grizzlies game itself was a hard-fought contest, emblematic of the physicality Perkins was highlighting. Draymond Green had a standout performance with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists before his ejection. Stephen Curry, although quieter than usual with 13 points and 8 rebounds, delivered when it mattered, while Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr. led all scorers with 32 points. 

The intensity of the game was palpable, and Perkins saw it as the perfect opportunity to double down on his “dawg” metaphor.

Fan reactions online only amplified the hilarity of the moment. Clips of Perkins barking at Ogwumike went viral, with fans commenting on how he continues to make NBA Today a must-watch for his unpredictable energy. 

As for Ogwumike, her stunned reaction and playful comeback solidified her as the perfect foil to Perkins’ boisterous personality. Their dynamic, alongside Malika Andrews and other co-hosts, keeps viewers entertained beyond just basketball breakdowns. Perkins’ ability to bring humor while making his points has carved out a unique space for him as an analyst, even if his delivery occasionally leaves his colleagues jumping out of their seats.

The Warriors may have narrowly escaped the Grizzlies, but it was Kendrick Perkins who stole the show that night with his barking bit. Ogwumike, now well-versed in Perkins’ unpredictability, may think twice before sitting too close to him during the next segment.
