Expectations can really take a toll on some guys career, as it can really make their confidence take a major hit and struggle to prove his worth, especially when coming back from a severe injury.
Over the last couple of seasons, there have been a couple of players whose performances have been quite disappointing, to say the least, but they still have a chance to redeem themselves and prove that they’re worthy of a roster spot.
Some of those players are incredibly talented but just can’t seem to be at their best, either because of lack of playing time, a system that doesn’t suit their style or just because they lack any sort of confidence. Today, we’ll let you know about 5 players that need to make a strong comeback next season.
5. Lonzo Ball
Once again, several nagging pains forced Lonzo Ball to miss a lot of playing time. And now that he’s finally given up on those BBB sneakers, he’s supposed to be fully healthy and avoid any ankle issues.
Ball was great as a playmaker and a defender but really needs to step up as a scorer as well. There’s no more room for distraction. He must focus entirely on basketball after averaging just 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.
4. Dennis Smith Jr.
Dennis Smith Jr. has the opportunity to get a fresh start with the New York Knicks after the Dallas Mavericks gave up on him. However, he needs to prove he’s better than Frank Ntilikina and Emmanuel Mudiay.
Moreover, if the Knicks wind up signing Kyrie Irving as expected, he needs to be at the top of his game if he doesn’t want to be on the move again, especially coming off a subpar season where he averaged 13.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
3. Jabari Parker
Not so long ago, teams were actually fighting to get a top-3 pick to Draft Jabari Parker and now it looks like they’re fighting to get rid of him, even though he’s still an incredibly talented scorer for this league.
Parker needs to put a lot of work in the defensive end and needs to shape up his game after guys like Nikola Mirotic and become a true stretch four, or else he’ll be out of the league in no time. Last year, he averaged 14.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.
2. Carmelo Anthony
This one was supposed to be Carmelo Anthony’s revenge season, but instead, he was just mistreated and disrespected by the entire league. Sadly, he may not have the chance to go out of the league the way he wanted to, just like Allen Iverson.
Hopefully, he’ll get the last chance to prove he’s one of the most talented scorers in the history of the game and put his doubters at ease once and for all after making just 10 appearances last season with averages of 13.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game.

It was really tough for DeMarcus Cousins to get back from his Achilles injury, and just when he was starting to look like his former self, he fell down with yet another gruesome season-ending injury.
Cousins is one of the best big men in the league, but it’s going to be difficult for teams to trust him with a big contract considering his temper and history with injuries. This season, he averaged 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.
