On Monday’s episode of Gil’s Arena, Kenyon Martin asked Nick Young why he didn’t beat up D’Angelo Russell following the snitching incident in March 2016. Russell’s actions eventually led to Young’s then-fiancee, Iggy Azalea, breaking up with him, and he revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers had warned him not to do anything.

“F***ing (Lakers GM) Mitch Kupchak and them told me, don’t come to the arena, don’t come to practice, none of that,” Young said. “If you do anything we gonna take your money.”

Martin asked if the Lakers were planning on fining him or withholding his salary but Young doesn’t remember.

“Then when I got there, there was security there all-around,” Young stated. “So, I couldn’t get a chance to (beat him up)… Once I seen him the next season, s*** had died down then.”

This incident took place toward the end of the 2015-16 season, so Young and Russell didn’t come across each other much afterward, especially with the Lakers telling the former to stay away. When they finally met before the start of the 2016-17 season, things had died down a little bit and there ended up being no physical altercation.

Martin then asked if Young had any years left on his contract and it turned out he did. On hearing that, the one-time All-Star stated that he would have beaten up Russell or would have gotten beaten up by him. Martin made it clear he wouldn’t have just let it go.

Later on in the episode, Gilbert Arenas asked Young if he thinks Russell intentionally released the video of him admitting he was cheating on Azalea. The 39-year-old initially stated he wasn’t sure but then changed his mind.

“Oh, I don’t know,” Young said. “Yes, how else it got there? How else do it get out there?”

I don’t often agree with Young’s logic, but he makes a good point there. How else would the video have leaked?

In case you need a refresher, Russell had secretly recorded Young when he was admitting that he was cheating on Azalea. The video somehow surfaced online and you can check it out below.

Young and Azalea announced their engagement on June 1, 2015, and this video would prove to be the beginning of the end of their relationship. While she initially insisted that all was fine, that wouldn’t be the case for too long.

On June 19, 2016, Azalea and Young announced they had broken up. Later that month, she claimed that the reason for it was her finding out that Young had brought other women to their house when she was away, thanks to security footage.

Young never really forgave Russell for the video getting leaked. While things didn’t get physical between them back then, Young once did claim he wanted to box Russell. The two have fired a fair few shots at each other over the years and I don’t expect them to mend fences anytime soon.

Nick Young Revealed What Iggy Azalea Took With Her Following The Breakup

As is the case with most high-profile breakups, a potential lifelong partner was far from the only thing Young lost. During an interview with DJ Vlad, Young revealed Azalea took his car and furniture after they split.

“Just the furniture. Because it was like we had a deal where I get the house and she put the furniture in, you know, so I put them out, I got the house, and she didn’t trust my, you know, style of buying furniture and stuff, so she was like, she’s gonna pay for it.”

“So after it was over, I come back, all the furniture gone, dead. I came home and everything was gone, man. So I came home to a tow truck towing the car she got me. She took the car back. 64 Impala.”

“It was on the tow truck. I’m like, what the I love that car, because it was blue. It was like LA. But yeah, she took that. So, I was being petty… I took the ring back.”

Young got some satisfaction from getting that engagement ring back. Three years later in 2019, he would get engaged again, this time with his high school sweetheart Keonna Green. They had been in an on-again-off-again relationship since 2002 but finally decided it was time to get serious. They have three children together and everything seems to be going great at the moment.
