Former Chicago Bulls guard Jaden Ivey has made some alarming comments on Instagram lately, and he made more during an appearance on the PinPoint Podcast on Tuesday. Most notably, Ivey stunningly revealed he considered taking his own life on multiple occasions.
“There’s been many times where God has been so merciful, bro,” Ivey said. “I’ve almost committed suicide multiple times, and I’m not ashamed to say it. I’m not ashamed because God was merciful to keep me here. I almost committed suicide. I had [oxycodone] pills in my hand. And my wife was telling me, ‘Don’t do it. Don’t do this. Don’t go down this road.’ And God was convicting me. And I didn’t know the truth. And so then, man, I didn’t do it by God’s grace. He kept me here.”
The more Ivey speaks, the more you realize how troubled his past was. The 24-year-old had previously shared he was sexually abused as a kid and never experienced true love growing up. Ivey also admitted to being abusive toward his wife, Caitlyn, and claimed he was grateful to her for being there for him through thick and thin. This latest episode appears to have driven her away as well, though.
Ivey first sparked concerns over the weekend by sending controversial messages on Instagram. He stated Catholicism is a “false religion,” a comment particularly noteworthy as his mother, Niele Ivey, is the head coach for Notre Dame’s women’s basketball team.
Then on Monday, Ivey was waived by the Bulls for making anti-LGBTQ comments. He had called out the NBA for promoting Pride Month, claiming they were celebrating unrighteousness. The Bulls then wasted little time in cutting ties with the guard, whom they had only acquired via a trade from the Detroit Pistons on Feb. 3. They cited conduct detrimental to the team as the reason for it.
Ivey ripped the Bulls for bringing up his conduct as the reason. He bizarrely pointed out that he had been away from the team rehabbing, so his conduct couldn’t have been detrimental to them. Does Ivey, whom the Bulls had ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 season due to a knee issue, have a point? Of course not.
Ivey later admitted that he used to be a fornicator and a pornography addict. All of this appears to have been too much to take for Caitlyn. Ivey revealed his wife is ghosting him, while his family members have termed him a psycho.
It seems obvious that Ivey needs help, but he doesn’t see it that way. He’s walking down a dangerous path as of now.
Ievy’s time in the NBA might be over as well. He doubts any team is going to sign him now, as they’ll all say he’s too religious. That could well be the case.
Ivey’s NBA career began with the Pistons, who selected him with the fifth pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He and Cade Cunningham were supposed to be the franchise cornerstones, but it wasn’t to be. Ivey suffered a broken left fibula against the Orlando Magic on Jan. 1, 2025, and hasn’t been the same since he returned. That undoubtedly played a role in the Pistons’ decision to part ways.
The Bulls were taking a small gamble by acquiring Ivey, and it didn’t work out. He’d only feature four times for them, averaging 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game.
