Speaking on the “Roommates” podcast, NFL legend Tom Brady had some nice things to say about the New York Knicks. As he looked toward Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson (core members of the team), Brady confidently stated his prediction of a Finals appearance in their future.

Tom Brady: “To win the Super Bowl is… Like getting to the [NBA] Finals. It’s hard to get there, but once you get there… you got to really compete.”

Jalen Brunson: “We don’t know what that is yet.”

Tom Brady: “I have a feeling you’re gonna get there.”

It takes a winner to know a winner, and Brady is the ultimate winner. The football legend, now retired, enjoyed a 23-year career in the NFL. He’s recognized today as the greatest player in the sport with a resume that includes 7 Super Bowl wins, 15 Pro Bowl appearances, and 3 MVPs. His legacy is legendary in the sports world and now he gets to enjoy life from the sidelines as a famous, multi-millionaire athlete.

In the NBA, only a few players can hold up to Brady’s career achievements and none of them are on the Knicks. In fact, Brady’s resume alone is more accomplished than the entire Knicks franchise, which has been around since 1946.

For decades, the Knicks were a laughingstock of the NBA. Constant mistakes from the owners and executives led to a long streak of mistakes and failures that held them back from contention. Their millions of loyal fans suffered for years before things started to turn around.

The first sign of improvement came in July of 2019 when the Knicks signed former lottery pick Julius Randle to a three-year, $63 million deal. Julius developed into an All-Star for the Knicks and is still around today as a major piece of their core.

Through trades, the draft, and free-agent signings, the Knicks were slowly able to build up their roster that can stack up against the best in the league. Today, even without a superstar, the Knicks are in a pretty good position to fulfill Brady’s prophecy and make a deep playoff run in 2025.

Fresh off a 50-win season, and a run to the Semi-Finals, the Knicks are feeling good about their chances in the East. Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle, and OG Anunoby created a formidable trio for the Knicks and they might have accomplished more last season had they managed to stay healthy in the spring.

Going into next season, the Knicks might be the biggest challengers to the Celtics in the East. They added several key players, including Mikal Bridges who averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game on 43.6% shooting.

Of course, it will take a complete and cooperative effort for the Knicks to make the Finals in 2024 but the odds haven’t looked this good for them in a long time and now even Tom Brady is a believer. If they can stay healthy and build chemistry on the court together, the Knicks pose a real threat to dethrone the Celtics as the champions of the East and maybe the entire NBA.

Only time will tell how it plays out, but the Knicks are long overdue for that type of run and the fans are more than ready to celebrate with everything they have.
