Team USA might have won one of the greatest international matches of the modern era, making a 17-point comeback to defeat Serbia 95-91 in the semi-final of the Olympics to advance to the Gold medal game. The incredible matchup had Kevin Durant in a celebratory and reflective mood after the win.
“Come on man, y’all acting like we won’t celebrate a win like that. Look at all our families here, look at this. That’s what this is about. All coming together as one on the other side of the world like this. Our section started USA chants, it was special tonight. We gotta celebrate. I know we ain’t win Gold, but you gotta celebrate the small moments too.”
Team USA’s all-time leading scorer knows that this is a night all the players will remember for the rest of their lives.
“I guarantee that everybody here will never forget about this night. Everybody here will remember this night for the rest of their lives. That’s how special this is because we came back and showed how together we were in that fourth quarter. It was incredible.”
A night we'll never forget.

Team USA was vaulted forward by a magnificent Stephen Curry performance. The Warriors star scored 36 points and came one point shy of tying Carmelo Anthony’s all-time single-game scoring record of 37 points at the Olympics for Team USA. LeBron James chipped in by becoming the first player to record multiple triple-doubles at the Olympics with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists.
This was an incredible win as the USA had to dig deep to make a double-digit comeback in the second half to avoid absolute disaster. They entered the fourth quarter with an 8-point deficit, but the team rallied behind James and Curry to send Nikola Jokic and Serbia to the Bronze medal game.
Durant himself had just nine points but was a crucial contributor down the stretch, alongside Joel Embiid, who had his best FIBA showing to date with 19 points on his rival Jokic.
Kevin Durant Felt Patriotic After This Win
Durant was moved by the emotions that such an intense game between Serbia and the USA brought up on the court. The fans in the arena were about to blow the roof off the place, with Durant reaffirming his love for representing his country based on the energy he felt.
βWhen you come to the Olympics, you see the pride in representing your country. You see the pride that Serbia has for their country. You see fans singing the anthem during the game. We love playing for the US, especially when a lot of bullsh*t goes on in our country.β
There’s no question that Kevin Durant is a true-blooded patriot and is one win away from unquestionably taking the mantle of the greatest Team USA player of all time. Even as he’s aged, Durant has been available for all the Olympics since 2012. This could be his fourth Gold medal.
He’s averaging 13.6 points this tournament, playing a sixth-man role after missing most of training camp and all the exhibition games with a calf injury.
