Team USA’s 3×3 women’s team won the Olympic bronze medal, and Hailey Van Lith believes it was because of her Mamba Mentality. She spoke after the game, claiming that Kobe Bryant would be proud of her because she showed off her Mamba Mentality in leading Team USA to the bronze medal.
“I think Kobe would be proud as heck of me for not letting us lose that last game. Sometimes you can’t control the outcomes. That last game, I’m not going to lie, it was tough. It was a tough situation for us to win it and we didn’t soak in it. That’s the Kobe mentality. It’s like f**k it, and go out and win the next game.”

This win by Team USA’s 3×3 women’s team marks the first of three possible medals USA Basketball can bring home from the Olympics. Unfortunately, Team USA’s men’s 3×3 team didn’t get the chance to bring him a medal. But perhaps the traditional 5×5 teams can secure podium finishes in Paris in the coming weeks.
Kobe Bryant would have a lot of respect for Hailey Van Lith and the mentality she and Team USA showcased. Kobe always believed in doing the work, especially when the chips were down and things got difficult. And for Van Lith and Team USA to grind out a victory to secure the bronze medal was just what Kobe would do.
Kobe himself knows what it is like to find success at the Olympics. He won two gold medals with Team USA in 2008 and 2012. He was one of the leaders, along with LeBron James, of what many call the ‘Redeem Team’ in 2008, a team put together to avenge Team USA’s poor performance at the 2004 Olympics.
Kobe Bryant Always Remembered Fondly By Basketball Fans
Kobe Bryant was a legendary figure for basketball fans, not just because of his talent, but what he represented. Much like Michael Jordan, Kobe was cut from a different cloth. An elite competitor with a never-give-up attitude who would do anything and everything he needed to win the game.
His desire to compete and to win was unparalleled and brought him incredible success in his NBA career. Bryant won 5 NBA championships, 2 Finals MVPs, 1 regular season MVP, made 18 All-Star teams, 15 All-NBA teams, and 12 All-Defensive teams. Kobe cemented himself as one of the all-time greats far before his career was even over.
When Kobe decided to call time on his legendary career, arenas all over the country would be packed with Lakers and non-Lakers fans who wanted to catch a glimpse of the legendary figure before he walked away. D’Angelo Russell, who was on the Lakers at the time, spoke about what it was like to be on the Lakers during Kobe’s retirement tour.
Kobe recently had a new statue unveiled outside of the Crypto.com Arena, featuring him and his late daughter Gianna. Fans reacted to the statue emotionally, with many fans reminiscing and wishing that Bryant and his daughter were still with us so they could witness this moment in person. While Bryant may no longer be with us, his memory will not soon be forgotten.
