An older video of Kevin Durant giving advice to young Tyrese Maxey recently resurfaced. He broke down footage of both Maxey, and Stephen Curry‘s, and explained how Curry’s game is so good, and what he does in a game to be great. It was really great to see this video of Maxey helping a future star like Maxey.
“That’s a tough shot, you can hit it. But do you want to shoot that shot all game? Right? You need easy baskets. Then you get your sh*t off. Boom.”
“You know what Steph (is) good (at)? He goes off because he gets a layup first. He gets a backdoor cut. Boom, he gets an assist. That gets him in the flow, then he hits two threes. He doesn’t just come out shooting straight threes… He gets into his sh*t first. He gets into his game first and then it’s spectacular stuff in life..”
“That’s like a layup and a jump shot all in one because the pull-up, you get to the rim you might get blocked, you might get fouled over the course of time. You can’t just keep doing that… You cannot get scored on. You’re not making it in the league if you get scored on.”
“The best player in our league is a point guard. It’s the deepest class, the deepest position is a point guard. You gotta be locked in. You got Steph one night, then you got Russ the next night.”
“Then on the back-to-back, you got Damian Lillard, another game next week you got Kyrie. What y’all going to do then? You get what I’m saying? Simplify the game as much as you can and be a floor general that can take over when you need to.”

Durant really wanted Maxey to succeed and gave him invaluable advice as the young guard was preparing to enter the NBA. That advice definitely helped Maxey, as he has established himself as one of the bright young players in the NBA, and he could be primed to be a superstar in the NBA in the years to come.
Tyrese Maxey Is Becoming A Star In The NBA
Tyrese Maxey has been steadily improving over the last few years in the NBA and has become a key player for the 76ers. Maxey entered the NBA in 2020, as a late first-round draft pick, and has now become an exciting young guard in the league who can steal the show on any given night.
Last season, Maxey averaged 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds with the 76ers. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career and won the NBA’s Most Improved Player award. He established himself as the 76ers’ second-best player behind Joel Embiid.
Tyrese Maxey has enjoyed playing Joel Embiid quite a lot, recently even opening up on what that has been like. Maxey even got emotional discussing the impact Embiid has had on his career growth in the NBA.
Maxey and Embiid will be joined by Paul George on the 76ers next season, forming a powerful trio. He recently shared his excitement over George’s arrival, and how the trio will perform together next season in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers are considered one of the favorites in the East to reach the NBA Finals.
