Former NBA player Danilo Gallinari continues his professional career in Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, a disturbing incident saw his wife, Eleonara Boi, bitten by a shark.
The incident reportedly occurred at Isla Verde Beach in Carolina. The Department of Natural and Environmental Resources confirmed the wounds were consistent with a shark bite.
The official statement by the Carolina Municipal Police’s Captain Ruben Moyeno confirmed that Gallinari’s wife sustained an open wound to her thigh. When considering that Boi is also pregnant, it is good news that she is in a stable condition.
Gallinari and his wife were married in July 2022 and are currently expecting their third child. While the consensus regarding the incident has been that it was a shark attack, additional reports by “Wapa” suggest that a barracuda may have been responsible.
The incident comes at a difficult time for Gallinari professionally. His team, Vaqueros de Bayamon, just clinched a spot in the Puerto Rican League Finals with a 92–75 Game 7 win over Santurce. They will face off against Leones de Ponce in the upcoming BSN finals.
Although he is currently playing in the Puerto Rican circuit, alongside former NBA players JaVale McGee and Chris Duarte, the Italian forward had an impressive NBA career as well.
Gallinari was selected with the sixth-overall pick by the New York Knicks in the 2008 NBA Draft. As the quintessential stretch forward, he boasted tremendous shooting ability at his size.
Early in his career, the Italian forward dazzled audiences in New York with his skills. In his sophomore season, he made a huge jump by notching an average of 15.1 points and 4.9 rebounds, while shooting 42.3% from the field and 38.1% from three-point range.
In his third season, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets, where he established himself as a key contributor. After six years with the franchise, Gallinari left as a fan-favorite to join the Los Angeles Clippers in 2017.
After his stint with the Clippers, he bounced around the league on short-term deals. He played with the Thunder, the Hawks, the Wizards, the Pistons, and the Bucks.
After suffering a severe injury while representing Italy in 2022, the forward struggled to establish himself as a consistent rotation player on any of these teams. He ended with a career average of 14.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Following the 2023–24 NBA season, Gallinari signed with Vaqueros de Bayamon for the 2025 BSN season. In 39 games for Vaqueros de Bayamon, the 36-year-old has recorded an average of 18.8 points and 5.9 rebounds on shooting splits of 49.4% on two-point attempts and 37.2% from three-point range.
