Warriors star Draymond Green recently opened up on which player he wants to play with the most as his teammate, and his answer was not surprising. According to Green, LeBron James is at the top of the list for his coveted teammates and he envies the chance to play with him.

Draymond Green has a long history with LeBron as his rival on the court. During the height of the Warriors’ dynasty, it was often LeBron and his Cavaliers teams who stood in the way of the championship and Draymond was in the thick of the action on the court, using his talents to try and disrupt the King’s game. Despite their fierce battles, Draymond has always been a fan of LeBron James and it’s no secret that his respect for the mean runs deep.
Draymond, 34, is a 12-year NBA veteran and a 4x All-Star for the Warriors. While not the face or the leader of the franchise, Draymond was crucial to their championship victories as the team’s defensive anchor and a key facilitator on offense. In 55 games last season, he averaged 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game on 49.7% shooting.
On the surface, Dray has no obvious connections to LeBron but they are both clients of Klutch Sports Group, which is notoriously led by LeBron’s best friend, Rich Paul. Plus, as two competitive veterans, they both share a deep appreciation for each other’s game.
Sadly for Draymond, the potential for a team-up with LeBron is somewhat limited. With three years and over $76 million left on his deal, Draymond is under contract through 2027, which will make him 37 by the time he’s a free agent. At 39 years old, LeBron may not have three years left in his career.
After 20+ years of pure excellence, the King has nothing left to prove as a 20x All-Star, 4x champion, and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. With so many miles under his belt, James knows that the end is near and it seems like he intends to finish his career as a Laker, alongside his son, Bronny, with a chance to compete in the West.
It isn’t for a lack of trying that the Warriors were unable to pair Draymond and LeBron. They tried to secure a trade for James before he turned them down to return to the Lakers. The Lakers also tried acquiring Draymond Green at some point before that pursuit ended abruptly.
While there’s still time for Draymond’s wish to come true, it’s a long shot to think that he and LeBron will ever be teammates before it’s all said and done. Sadly, that scenario will have to stay in the imaginations of the fans but Draymond should be fine enough with Stephen Curry by his side.
