In a recent episode of ‘The Big Podcast with Shaquille O’Neal,’ NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Dirk Nowitzki discussed various topics, including the NBA Finals, their respective careers, and Mavericks star Luka Doncic. During the conversation, O’Neal humorously commented on Nowitzki’s wife, Jessica Olsson, who is Black.

“I found out accidentally, and I don’t know if Dirk knows this, but we all leave the same way. So one day, there was this gorgeous person standing right there, and I was like, oh.”

“It was like, that’s Dirk’s wife. I was like, oh, okay, my bad. But after that, I knew that he was down. I knew that he liked the chocolate. I knew that he likes the chocolate bars. Yes, I knew that it was good.” (16:44)

O’Neal shared a story about the first time he saw Olsson. He recounted that he saw a beautiful woman standing outside the arena after a game and later found out she was Nowitzki’s wife. This discovery led him to joke that he realized Dirk had a preference for “chocolate bars.” The comment was met with laughter from Nowitzki, who found the story amusing and had never heard it before.

The podcast episode highlighted the camaraderie and humor between the two retired stars. Their playful banter and shared experiences provided fans with an entertaining and insightful look into their friendship.

When asked about his experiences after marrying a Black woman, Nowitzki explained that he was warmly accepted by the Black community. He frequently received invitations to cookouts and gatherings during home games, demonstrating the positive reception he experienced.

Nowitzki’s presence at Mavericks games and events this postseason has been significant for the team and its fans. As the greatest player in franchise history, his support during the Mavericks‘ run to the Finals has been invaluable. This podcast episode further showcased the bond between O’Neal and Nowitzki, illustrating their ability to bring joy and laughter even off the court.

Shaquille O’Neal-Dirk Nowitzki Duo Would Be A Matchup Nightmare

Imagine a lineup featuring Shaquille O’Neal and Dirk Nowitzki. The thought alone is enough to send chills down the spine of any defender. Both players, renowned for their unique and dominant playing styles, would create a matchup nightmare for any team.

Consider a 3-2 lineup with Shaq and Dirk each occupying a side of the post. On one side, you have Shaquille O’Neal, arguably the most physically dominant player the NBA has ever seen.

Shaq’s ability to overpower defenders with his sheer strength and size would force teams to double-team him, opening up opportunities for his teammates. Shaq’s presence in the paint would be a constant threat, and his ability to finish around the rim with authority would make it incredibly difficult for any team to contain him.

On the other side, Dirk Nowitzki, a master of finesse and skill, would present a completely different set of challenges. Known for his impeccable footwork and signature fadeaway jumper, Dirk could score from anywhere on the court.

His ability to stretch the floor with his three-point shooting would create spacing issues for defenders, making it nearly impossible to guard both him and Shaq simultaneously. Dirk’s versatility and basketball IQ would complement Shaq’s brute force perfectly.

Defenders would be left in a state of helplessness, unable to effectively double-team either player without leaving the other one open. Choosing to focus on Shaq would leave Dirk open for uncontested jump shots while doubling Dirk would free Shaq to dominate inside. The combination of Shaq’s interior dominance and Dirk’s perimeter prowess would be virtually unstoppable.

Shaquille O’Neal himself revealed that he tried to join the Dallas Mavericks to team up with Dirk Nowitzki when he was leaving the Lakers in 2004. Despite his efforts, the Lakers were unwilling to trade him to another Western Conference team without receiving Dirk in return.

Had this dream pairing come to fruition, it would have been a spectacle to watch. The Mavericks, already a strong team, could have accelerated their path to championship glory, potentially winning titles even before their 2011 triumph.

A Shaquille O’Neal-Dirk Nowitzki duo would have been an offensive powerhouse, posing insurmountable challenges for any defense. Their combined strengths and complementary styles would make them one of the most formidable tandems in NBA history.
