Kendrick Perkins had a humorous and pointed reaction to Channing Frye’s recent comments on the ‘Road Trippin’ podcast. During the episode, host Allie Clifton asked Frye to name his top five NBA players of the year. The omission of Giannis Antetokounmpo from this list did not sit well with Perkins, who responded with a hilariously incredulous question.

Channing Frye: “In no order here’s who I thought played the best this year. SGA, then Jokic, Luka, Tatum, and Brunson. Those were the five best players I thought played this year.”

Kendrick Perkins: “Did Giannis Die?”

Channing Frye: “Giannis? Are you tripping? Come on man.”

Frye listed Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA), Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum, and Jalen Brunson. Perkins immediately reacted by asking, if Giannis had died. This comment underscored his disbelief that Frye would leave out Giannis, who has consistently been one of the top performers in the NBA.

Despite Frye’s dismissal, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s performance this year was nothing short of stellar. The Greek Freak earned his sixth consecutive First Team All-NBA honor, highlighting his continued dominance in the league.

His season averages of 30.4 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game, while shooting an impressive 61.1% from the field, are a testament to his all-around excellence.

Giannis’s injury just before the start of the playoffs certainly impacted his team’s performance, with the Milwaukee Bucks being knocked out in the first round. However, his regular-season contributions were monumental, and many would argue that his absence from any top-five list is a glaring oversight.

Perkins’ reaction highlights a broader sentiment shared by many fans and analysts: Giannis Antetokounmpo remains one of the NBA’s elite players. His combination of scoring, rebounding, playmaking, and defensive prowess makes him a perennial MVP candidate and a player who can single-handedly change the outcome of games.

Frye’s list, while highlighting some deserving players, arguably undervalues Giannis’s impact on the court. Players like SGA, Jokic, Luka, Tatum, and Brunson have had excellent seasons, but Giannis’s consistent dominance and accolades make a strong case for his inclusion in any discussion of the league’s top talent.

Perkins‘ comment, though humorous, serves as a reminder of Giannis’s exceptional abilities and the respect he commands across the NBA community. The Greek Freak’s exclusion from Frye’s list might be seen as an oversight, but it also ignites an important conversation about the criteria used to evaluate the best players in the league.

The Disrespect Giannis Antetokounmpo Has Faced Is Applaing

The disrespect Giannis Antetokounmpo has faced recently is nothing short of appalling. Despite his exceptional consistency and dominance in the NBA, he often finds himself overlooked in discussions about the league’s top players. This oversight is particularly glaring given his remarkable achievements over the past several years.

Giannis has been a fixture on the All-NBA First Team for six consecutive seasons, a feat unmatched by any other player since the 2018-19 season. This consistency underscores his elite status and sustained excellence on the court. Regardless of team performance or individual accolades, Giannis has been a constant force, demonstrating his superiority in both the regular season and the playoffs.

Yet, despite these accolades, some analysts and fans have been quick to exclude him from their top five lists. This exclusion often stems from his team’s playoff shortcomings, many of which can be attributed to injuries rather than a decline in his performance. Criticizing Giannis for these playoff exits ignores the context of his injuries and the immense effort he puts into every game.

Moreover, Giannis’s presence on the court goes beyond mere statistics. His leadership, work ethic, and determination have been pivotal in the Milwaukee Bucks‘ success. He led the team to an NBA championship in 2021, solidifying his place among the game’s greats. His ability to perform under pressure and deliver in crucial moments is a testament to his greatness.

The casual removal of Giannis from top player discussions is not only unfair but also diminishes his contributions and achievements. It’s essential to recognize and appreciate the consistent excellence he brings to the game.

Disrespecting a player of his caliber, who has continuously proven his worth, undermines the integrity of evaluating true basketball talent. Giannis Antetokounmpo deserves the respect and recognition befitting one of the NBA’s elite.
