The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets will face off in a do-or-die Game 7 on Sunday and Anthony Edwards believes it will be the best ever.

“It’s going to be the greatest Game 7 of all time,” Edwards said.

If you look at the recent history of Game 7s, we have seen quite a few uncompetitive ones. Five of the last seven have been blowouts, with Cavaliers-Magic this year and Celtics-Heat in 2022 being the only ones that were close.

I do believe, though, that this Wolves-Nuggets clash has the potential to be one of the better ones we have seen, largely thanks to the two best players. I am almost certain that Edwards and Nikola Jokic are going to put on a show, as both of them step up in the big moments. We have seen them put in some incredible performances in this series as well.

Edwards has recorded two 40-point games and is now averaging 29.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game for the series. The 22-year-old has also been remarkably efficient, having shot 55.1% from the field and 41.5% from beyond the arc.

As for Jokic, he is averaging 28.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 52.8% from the field. The three-time MVP delivered a masterpiece in Game 5 with a 40-point double-double and it was one of the finest playoff performances I’ve seen.

It’s not easy to pick one over the other with how great each is, but I think Jokic and the Nuggets will come out on top. This contest being in Denver gives them a huge advantage, as does the fact that they have some experience playing in these games. The Nuggets are 3-1 in Game 7s in the Jokic era, with the only loss coming to the Portland Trail Blazers back in 2019.

The Timberwolves, meanwhile, have not played in a Game 7 in Edwards’ time there. They did play in a do-or-die game, though, in the NBA Play-In Tournament last year. The Timberwolves blew out the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-95 to advance to the playoffs, but that game was at home and this Game 7 is not.

As for whether this contest could go down as the greatest, the stakes aren’t high enough for that. I think of Cavaliers vs. Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals when I think of the greatest Game 7s and there have been so many others as well on the biggest stage. Maybe if this one ends up being a double overtime thriller, it goes down as the greatest.

Anthony Edwards Had A Blunt Response When Asked If He And The Wolves Want To Win Game 7 For Mike Conley

While Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Jaden McDaniels have not played in a Game 7, the likes of Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley have. Conley has lost all four that he has played in and Edwards was asked how much more he and the team wanted to win it for him.

“I want to win for myself,” Edwards said. “I wasn’t with Mike whenever he was playing Game 7s so that has nothing to do with me. Yeah, I want to win for myself.”

Anthony Edwards when asked if him and the Wolves want to win Game 7 for veteran point guard Mike Conley, who is 0-for-4 in Game 7s in his career:

While some seem to have taken an issue with this response, I think it was quite fair for Edwards to say that. The two-time All-Star just wants to win and couldn’t care less about some of these narratives.
