The 2024 NBA playoffs are underway as we already have the Boston Celtics representing one-half of the Eastern Conference Finals matchup. Some key players this season have already been bounced in the postseason, or before it, including LeBron James, Donovan Mitchell, and Paul George among others.
Trade and free agency rumors continue to swirl around some of the league’s best stars but that doesn’t mean all of them will leave their current teams. In fact, 10 NBA stars will most likely stay with their teams this summer and for the foreseeable future.
1. LeBron James
2023-24 Season Statistics: 25.7 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 8.3 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.5 BPG
LeBron James appears to want to maintain his loyalty to the Los Angeles Lakers for the foreseeable future. With a likely playing tenure of two to three more seasons, James seems inclined to solidify his connection with the Lakers. The Lakers’ expressed interest in potentially drafting Bronny James, suggests that the franchise wants to anchor LeBron to Los Angeles until his retirement.
Not to mention, James has established roots in LA, evidenced by his residence in the city and the fact his lifestyle will be difficult to replicate anywhere else. The opportunity to team up with Anthony Davis, one of the league’s premier talents, further cements the Lakers as an attractive destination for James.
While rumors of a potential return to Cleveland have circulated after The King was spotted courtside in the Cavaliers postseason matchup against the Celtics this week, it seems improbable that James would reunite with Dan Gilbert after having burned bridges before.
2. Pascal Siakam
2023-24 Season Statistics: 21.7 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 4.3 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Despite being the subject of trade speculation throughout the season, Trae Young’s future with the Atlanta Hawks could be secure, especially following the team’s acquisition of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 Draft. This could make Young untouchable in trade discussions, as the Hawks would be hesitant to part ways with a player of his caliber and impact.

Brandon Ingram’s future with the New Orleans Pelicans appears uncertain amidst swirling trade rumors, particularly regarding his teammate Zion Williamson. Thompson’s willingness to accept a pay cut reflects his dedication to remaining in San Francisco alongside longtime teammate Stephen Curry.
While Thompson may not command a salary close to the $43 million he earned this year, a potential contract in the range of $20 to $25 million could pave the way for his re-signing with the Warriors until his retirement. 9. Bradley Beal

The Phoenix Suns probably need to break up their Big Three but it might not be possible. Devin Booker is untouchable since he is an All-Star at 27 years old, Kevin Durant is a difference-maker on the court when healthy, and Bradley Beal has an untradable contract. For that reason, Beal likely isn’t going anywhere.
The former All-Star is under contract until 2026-27 with over $50 million paid to him each season. Beal appeared in 53 games this season and averaged 18.2 points per game, but his production fell in the postseason as he posted 16.5 points per game on 44.1% shooting from the field. The shooting guard has most likely exited his prime which means the Suns are likely stuck with his contract.
10. D’Angelo Russell
2023-24 Season Statistics: 18.0 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 6.3 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.5 BPG
D’Angelo Russell’s future with the Los Angeles Lakers hangs in the balance as the team navigates potential roster adjustments. While the Lakers may entertain the idea of shopping Russell if a suitable All-Star caliber player becomes available, the likelihood of such a scenario remains uncertain.
With stars like Trae Young (likely to stay in Atlanta) Donovan Mitchell (trade value too high), and the high trade value associated with players like Lauri Markkanen (Jazz want multiple first-round picks) the Lakers may find it challenging to secure a viable trade option.
That means Russell’s $18,692,307 player option presents a compelling case for his retention by the Lakers or possibly a long-term deal for the 28-year-old. Given LeBron James’ anticipated re-signing to partner with Anthony Davis, the Lakers may face difficulty in finding a player of Russell’s caliber on the market. As a result, bringing Russell back into the fold could provide the Lakers with continuity and stability in their backcourt.
