Michael Porter Jr. found himself in a whirlwind of panic and embarrassment back in 2019 after accidentally leaking NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s phone number. Recalling the incident, Porter Jr. expressed his initial shock upon realizing his mistake, admitting that he didn’t even realize he had posted the number until his sister pointed it out to him.

“And like I didn’t even realize I posted it, but I looked on my Snapchat 10 minutes later and my sister like replied to it and was like, you know you just put Adam Silver’s number out there. So I looked at the post and it already had like a thousand screenshots.”

“And then like literally like 10 minutes later, they put it out on, they put it on the screen in the classroom. And they were like, basically, I thought I was going to get kicked out the league. It was like a big deal and like, I ended up having to get up on stage and apologize in front of everybody.”

“Like they brought me in a back room with like Adam Silver’s like and they were like, what were you doing? I was like, yeah, it was an honest accident. I’m sorry. I can get up on stage and apologize if you guys want to.”

The gravity of the situation became apparent when Porter Jr. saw his Snapchat post garnering a significant number of screenshots within minutes. The realization struck him even harder when the incident was brought to light in a classroom setting, escalating the matter to a whole new level.

Fearing severe consequences, Porter Jr. confessed that he thought he might be kicked out of the league for his blunder. The incident quickly spiraled into a public spectacle, leading to him having to apologize on stage in front of a crowd. The pressure intensified as the apology was framed in a manner that drew attention to the seriousness of the situation.

Porter Jr. found himself summoned to a private meeting with none other than Adam Silver himself, facing questions about his actions. Despite the nerve-wracking ordeal, Porter Jr. maintained his composure and admitted to his mistake, expressing remorse and offering to apologize publicly.

The entire episode served as a valuable lesson for Porter Jr., highlighting the importance of being mindful of what is shared on social media and the potential consequences of careless actions. His inadvertent blunder underscored the power of social media and the need for responsible usage, especially for public figures like professional athletes.

Ultimately, Michael Porter Jr.’s experience serves as a cautionary tale for anyone navigating the digital landscape, emphasizing the importance of exercising caution and discretion in an era where a single post or message can have far-reaching consequences.
