Bronny James Is Focused On NBA Draft Over Transfer Portal

Bronny James prefers to head straight to the NBA over return to college.

As the son of basketball royalty, all eyes are on Bronny James as he prepares to make his big decision this summer. And while many options are open to the budding young star, the latest intel suggests he’s determined to join the NBA as soon as possible.

“At this point, James is expected to devote his energy to the NBA Draft process in hopes of securing a selection he and his father’s agency, Klutch Sports, would find desirable,“ wrote Sam Vecenie of The Athletic. “It is unclear if they have a range of picks in mind or a specific team. But the plan is for James to see what happens over the next couple months before the May 29 withdrawal deadline.”

After Bronny’s off-season was destroyed due to a cardiac arrest, there was uncertainty about how the incident might affect his transition over from Sierra Canyon High School.

Bronny just finished his freshman season at USC, where he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game on 36.6% shooting. While he started some games for the Trojans, he was mostly a bench player for his team, brought in mostly for his skills as a playmaker and defender.

By the end of his first season, fans were left feeling underwhelmed with Bronny’s play and many are questioning if he’s even an NBA-level player at all. At the very least, some would argue that he should postpone his NBA plans until he’s further grown and enhanced his skill.

This summer, despite the opportunity to team up with his dad, Bronny could still return to school and give his game another year to develop and it’s what many critics feel he should do. But if James gets a draft promise from any team to his liking, he won’t hesitate to make the leap and his dad will be sure to follow.

Bronny James Is NBA Bound

Perhaps the worst part about James’ college debut is that his team was so bad for most of the year. The Trojans were an afterthought in their conference, and somehow, Bronny struggled to crack the starting lineup.

From the numbers, James’ trajectory doesn’t look too good, but there is still faith that he can contribute in other, non-countable ways. As a solid defender and smart offensive player, Bronny could be an ideal backup point guard for a team in the right position.

For the Lakers, who have a limited amount of draft assets this summer, they are arguably the best candidates to sign James and it makes sense given the fact that LeBron is already there and that Los Angeles has been the family’s home for years now.

But at this point, with so many unpredictable variables, it’s impossible to say for sure where Bronny will end up when he inevitably joins the NBA ranks. All he can do now is try his best to prepare for whatever situation arises this summer.
