Patrick Beverley announced on Wednesday on the Pat Bev Podcast with Rone, that he had torn a ligament in his right wrist. Beverley was informed it would have to be surgically repaired, which would take 3-4 months, and it seemed his season might be over. Well, Beverley announced on Thursday night that he won’t undergo surgery.

“I got to get me a championship this year,” Beverley said. “Straight up. I have to… Put some spit, put some dirt on it. Story’s not over, got work to do and I don’t want to hear none of that sorry s*** neither….  No f***ing excuses, go get it done, Pat. So, I’m already there mentally, bulletproofed my mind. Let’s beat the odds, when have I never done that.”

That was quite the announcement. Beverley also released a statement via his podcast’s X account.

“The Bucks came and got me to make a playoff run… I can’t let my teammates, the coaching staff & the organization down. I’m here for the long ride… a championship run.”

Beverley, who is averaging 4.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game this season, has never won a championship in his career. This might well be the 35-year-old’s last chance at one, so you get his desperation to be on the court. I am not sure it is the right idea to let him play through it, though.

After missing the Bucks’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers due to that wrist injury, Beverley returned against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday. He grabbed one rebound on the night and went scoreless, going 0-4 from the field and 0-3 from beyond the arc in just over seven minutes.

That wrist appears to be bothering Beverley a fair bit and if he continues to struggle like this even after a week or so, the Bucks might have to bring down those minutes. They traded for him for his defense and while he has made an impact on that end of the floor, they can’t have him on the court if he is a complete liability on offense.

Even if Beverley’s play does improve with time, I am not sure this Bucks team has what it takes to win it all this season. Whenever they seem to take a step forward, they take two steps back. A run of four wins in five has been followed by back-to-back defeats in their last two games.

The Bucks lost 107-100 on Beverley’s return against the Pelicans and prior to that, had lost 128-124 in double overtime to a Lakers team that was without LeBron James. They are still the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 46-27 record on the season, but the 44-28 New York Knicks are breathing down their necks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Made A Hilarious Comment About Patrick Beverley

Beverley has certainly made quite an impression on his new teammates in the short time that he has been with the franchise. Giannis Antetokounmpo hilariously said the Bucks players love playing with Beverley.

“He’s one of those guys that — Sorry for my language — that you say, ‘he’s an A**hole.’ But when he plays on your team, like, ‘That’s my a**hole.’ You know? And I love him. We love playing with him. He’s a leader. He knows how to play the game. He’s a winner.”

Beverley is the classic case of a player you love when he’s on your team but hate when he’s your opponent. He gives his all on the court for his team and does whatever it takes to win.
