NBC Sports Chicago commentators Stacey King and Adam Amin went viral for all the wrong reasons on Saturday night. During the game broadcast between the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards, King fell for a fake Adrian Wojnarowski post that stated Derrick Rose is retiring.

“It is out on the internet,” King said. “Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that Derrick Rose is retiring after 15 seasons.”

King and Amin then got to discussing Rose’s career with the Bulls. A few minutes later, they finally realized that they might have been tricked. Amin noted that he was still waiting for confirmation when King told him that people were telling him he got fooled by a fake tweet.

That would have been incredibly embarrassing for both of them and King, in particular. This was the fake post that he fell for.

This post has over 69K likes and 13K retweets, which is incredible and you get how it might have ended up on King’s timeline. Still, he needs to be much more careful about what he says on air, especially when the topic is a significant one like this.

King should have double-checked with the producer or anyone else part of the crew, as plenty of such fake accounts are impersonating Wojnarowski. He almost certainly will do that next time out.

As for Rose, he, of course, has not retired just yet and is on the Memphis Grizzlies’ roster. He is currently on the sidelines, however, after being diagnosed with osteitis pubis.

Rose has only managed to play in 24 games in this 2023-24 season for the Grizzlies and has averaged 8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 0.3 steals per game. The end is near, but he isn’t walking away just yet.

It is a real shame how Rose’s career has panned out. The Bulls had picked him as the first pick of the 2008 NBA Draft, and he became the youngest MVP ever when he won the award in 2011 at the age of 22 years and seven months.

He then tore his ACL the next year and the injury nightmare just didn’t end after that. You commend Rose for playing as long as he has now despite going through numerous setbacks.

Norris Cole Says Point Guards Would Fake Injuries To Avoid Playing Against Derrick Rose In His Prime

Norris Cole went up against Rose when he was at his absolute peak and it certainly wasn’t a pleasant experience. The former NBA champion said point guards would fake injuries to avoid playing against Rose in his prime.

“When people ask me who the hardest guy I ever had to guard, I tell ’em, ‘D-Rose was the toughest guy.’ Your favorite point guards of today had no chance against Derrick Rose. No offense, but Kai (Kyrie Irving), Steph(en Curry), and them, no chance against that guy. People were getting the D-Rose flu. He was coming in and cats didn’t want to play.”

That was quite the claim made by Cole and it could be true. If you had told someone before the 2012 playoffs that a point guard would go on to dominate the NBA for the next decade, almost everyone would have gone with Rose. Instead, he fell by the wayside due to all the injuries and Stephen Curry emerged as the dominant force.
