Draymond Green: Warriors Would’ve Won The NBA Championship With LeBron James

Draymond Green says the Warriors would have easily won the championship with LeBron James.

The Golden State Warriors audaciously attempted to pull off a trade for LeBron James before the NBA’s trade deadline, but they were ultimately unsuccessful. Draymond Green was reportedly the one pushing for the Warriors to make the move, and he was asked during an appearance on “7PM in Brooklyn,” how James would have fit in.

“Locker room-wise I think you have mature individuals that understand each other because we got families, we got appreciation for where we are in our spaces,” Draymond said. “Like-minded individuals that would enjoy some great vino all the time. We would gamble, we have things in common. How does it work? We’re all secure in who we are.”

Green then stated they would have won the championship easily had they acquired James.

“The basketball I think that’s the easiest part,” Draymond continued. “Because you got a bunch of guys who know the game and ain’t in competition with the next guy. Very at peace with where they are. The number one thing would be to win. You also have a group of guys that know how to win… I think that teams win the championship, no problem.”

(starts at 50:11 mark):

I am not sure they would have won the title this season, as fully integrating a piece like LeBron mid-season is difficult. They would have been clear favorites for 2025 and maybe even 2026, though, as it would have been a tall task to beat a team that has LeBron and Stephen Curry.

While the two are getting up there in age, they are still playing at a very high level. LeBron is averaging 25.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game this season for the Los Angeles Lakers. He is 39 years old but still has plenty of gas left in the tank.

Curry, meanwhile, has put up 27.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game in 2023-24. Like James, he has at least a couple of years left in him and the Warriors would have won it all in my opinion as long as these two stayed healthy.

Ultimately, though, we didn’t get to see it but the Warriors reportedly are not done pursuing a trade for LeBron. It will be interesting to see if they make a move for him this upcoming offseason.

LeBron James Spoke On The Warriors Trying To Trade For Him

Shockwaves were sent across the basketball world when the news broke that Golden State had tried to acquire James. The man himself spoke on it during All-Star weekend, as LeBron opened up on the Warriors’ attempt to trade for him.

“It didn’t go far at all. I actually heard about it when everybody else heard about it. Charles has been in the league, Kenny has been in the league, Shaq has been in the league. Sometimes, conversations happen behind closed doors that you don’t even know about. If it’s real or not, then they’ll bring it to you, but it never even got to me. I heard when the report dropped as well.”

As per the initial report, James never had an interest in leaving the Lakers, but who knows, his stance might change in the offseason. LeBron can even be a free agent if he opts out of his $51.4 million player option, so anything can happen really.
