Kyrie Irving is one of the most vocal NBA superstars in the world, not afraid to speak his mind whenever he feels strongly about an issue. That tendency in Irving is admirable but has caused problems with his NBA career, particularly on the Nets, with his stance on COVID vaccination.
Irving has been sending messages on social media about the war between Israel and Palestine and all the innocent civilians losing their lives. He sent more of his prayers to the troubled region after the Mavericks win over the Wizards last night.
“I am (smiling). At the same time, we have to pray for all the innocent around the world, I know y’all saw what’s going on. Praying for the innocent in Israel and Palestine, alright.”

Kyrie has previously used a press conference to discuss the situation in the region as well.
“There’s a lot of stuff that’s going on in this world, and basketball’s just not the most important thing to me right now. There’s a lot of stuff going on overseas. All my people are still in bondage all across the world, and there’s a lot of dehumanization going on… Being in this gym—yeah, I’m grateful for the opportunity, it’s a blessing—but my goal out here, my purpose is to help humanity. And I can’t sit here and not address that. I don’t care which way you stand, on either side, if you’re a human being and you support the anti-war effort that’s going on—there’s a lot of people losing their lives, children, a lot of babies—that’s just what I’m focused on.”
Irving’s recent comments are in response to the attack on Rafah, one of the most densely populated regions in Palestine and an area where innocent civilians have migrated in recent months due to the widespread bombing of the Gaza Strip.
Kyrie Irving And The Mavericks Are Excelling On The Court
It has to be hard for Irving to refocus on basketball knowing how strongly he feels in situations like this. Irving has taken games off during his time with the Nets based on personal reasons but has not done that with the Mavericks. He’s struggled to remain healthy and is maximizing his time on the court whenever possible.
Irving’s latest return from injury has led to a five-game winning streak for the Mavericks, their longest of the season. He’s averaging 25.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists over this stretch and played 42 minutes to help the Mavericks close out a comeback win against the Wizards last night. Kyrie scored 26 points in that win.
The Mavericks have had new life injected into them with massive trade deadline moves to acquire P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford. Gafford has made an instant impact, averaging 17.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks over two games with the Mavericks.
Washington is yet to find his offensive rhythm, averaging 11.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in his two games. However, he’s quickly proving himself as one of the best frontcourt defenders on the Mavs, playing with high effort in the minutes he gets.
Irving and Luka Doncic are slowly perfecting their partnership, with the off-court relationship between the pair also growing stronger. This is the best Dallas has looked in the Doncic era and will hope to win their last game before the All-Star break against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
